We've been talking a lot about silhouettes around these parts, most recently in Anna's Retrospect piece. One of the ultimate portrait-cutters will be visiting our fair city next month to provide his creative services for a nominal fee.

Karl Johnson will cut your very own black paper portrait for $25, with copies available for $15 each. The event is taking place on September 11th from 10am - 5pm at Babesta Cribz on 56 Warren Street. Johnson's work is stunningly intricate and he does a wonderful job capturing the essence of a subject.

I have given Mr. Johnson's work as gift many times and highly recommend buying the work framed. During a phone conversation with Mr. Johnson, I discovered he once had a summer job in my home town of Dalton, GA. His work is wonderful-each piece will become a treasured heirloom in your home.
This is so clever! Like it.
Or if you are looking for a more affordable version, there is an Asian gentleman who is usually located at the 14th/Union Square stop on the L line who does amazing cutout portraits....in less than 15 minutes.
