Before I moved overseas, I did a decent job winnowing through the stacks of paper that seem to accumulate all over my house. Old bills, junk mail, early drafts of papers- it all starts to add up and once you fall behind, it is dangerously easy to find yourself buried under a mountain of unnecessary paper. My pre-move strategy was to sort into boxes; the multiple boxes of needless paper then made a trip to the city trash center where an industrial shred truck reduced the contents to confetti in just minutes. Realizing that I have a tendency to let paper build, I'm determined to turn over a new leaf in the new year and shred as I go.
For those of us without access to industrial shredders at work, there are a variety of smaller options designed for the home. From ??? ???, here are a few of the options I'm looking at:
Moda Shred * Sheet Cross Cut Shredder from Best Buy: Compact and even stylish, this shredder can run 8 sheets at a time as well as credit cards throught its cross-cutting blades. ($60)
Powershred DS-2 Safe Sense 8 sheet Confetti Cut Shredder by Fellowes: This traditional bucket model can handle 8 sheets of paper at a time as well as credit cards and staples. Using sensor technology, it has a safety feature that stops shredding when hands get too close to the paper entry, and the confetti cut is designed for maximum security. ($70)
Wall-Mount Paper Shredder and Messaging Center from Black & Decker: This 6 sheet crosscut shredder does double duty as a messaging center with magnetic white board. It has a slim-line profile and is designed to easily hang on a wall or reside on a desk or floor using the included stand, and is powerful enough to shred credit cards and staples. ($80)
15 Sheet Diamond Cut Shredder from OfficeMax: This stylish curved shredder is designed to be more energy efficient; automattically shutting down if left idle for 5 minutes. It can handle 15 sheets at a time as well as credit cards, staples, and even CDs and DVDs. ($160)
GoECOlife Space Saver 12-Sheet Ultra-Quiet Shredder from OfficeMax:Another energy efficient shredder, this one meets the EU's RoHS standards and is certified carbon neutral. I features a slimline design, and shreds 12 sheets at a time, as well as staples and credit cards. ($180)
