Tile is one of those objects that a photo doesn't do justice. Texture is what really makes tile alluring, and Mutina's new collection — on view at the Stone Source booth at ICFF — is all about the tactile surface. With Patricia Urquiola leading their design department, Mutina has signed some interesting talents to experiment with porcelain.

Japanese architect/designer Tokujin Yoshioka and Israeli design duo Raw Edges have created an ensemble of tiles inspired by natural materials like paper (Raw Edges' 'Folded' line of porcelain tile), honeycomb (Yoshioka's contemporary update of hex tile), and streaks of rain on a window (Yoshioka's 'Rain' line of porcelain mosaic tile).

Meanwhile, Patricia Urquiola continues to build on her Dechirer Collection, first released in 2008. She slowly adds to the line, year after year, and emphasizes the long-term value of a modular collection that can grow and adapt over time. Urquiola seems to be steering Mutina in the right direction — the collection at Stone Source won the ICFF Editors Award for Best Materials this year.

Mutina's porcelain tiles are made in Italy — the company headquarters are in Modena, and flagship stores are located in Paris and Barcelona. In the US, everything shown in above will be available through Stone Source online or in showrooms in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and Washington, DC.
