Name: Parker (2.5)
Location: Arlington, TX
Room Size: 75 square feet
Tip for Living Small with Kids: Storage. I used to keep all of Parkers socks, pj's, pants, etc in fabric bins in his closet, but after awhile it was starting to really be overwhelming. He also had stuffed animals and toys spilling out everywhere. I packed up some things for donation, and separated out his "baby" toys and clothes to move to our soon-to-be-born son's room. We picked up a new dresser and bedside table from Ikea, and now I have room for stashing all of his clothes, plus extra sheets and blankets in the dresser, and almost all of his toys and puzzles in his bedside. I have ample space leftover now in the closet.
Biggest Design Challenge in this Room: In redoing Parker's room to be his new "big boy" room with his new twin bed, my biggest challenge with designing it turned out to be choosing the color to repaint the walls. I knew I didn't want the baby blue and dark blue combo that it was painted anymore, but I had no idea what color I wanted to go with for the new look. I chose fabric for the curtains that I thought was adorable and my mother in law sewed them for me, and then I decided on and ordered bedding. But when the bedding arrived it turned out that it didn't coordinate with the curtains like I thought it would. So to bring the two more together I took several weeks deciding on a light shade of grey to repaint the room. I changed my mind at least 1000 times before going with one called "Tsunami Sky".
Favorite Thing About This Room: My favorite thing about this room is the new twin bed. Parker seemed more than ready to leave his crib-turned-toddler-bed behind, and we needed to make the switch with him anyway, because we needed the crib for our new baby boy that is on his way! It is a metal Wesley Allen bed, (I love metal beds), in pewter, and was purchased as a gift from my mother. It is really a sturdy, beautiful bed. I also love just how much my son loves his room. Really, really loves it. I know it's hard to believe that a two-year-old really shows much appreciation for this, but the day we put his new bed up and made the finishing touches on the room, he stayed in his room playing the rest of the day, and he jumps on the bed every chance he gets. He's definitely happy with the switch from "toddler" to "big boy".
Thanks for your entry Natalie and good luck!
