Though we're not usually a fan of patchwork, it can be enticing when it is done very well. We have a fondness for Hans Hopfer's Mah Jong sofa from Roche Bobois and a recent fascination with Bertjan Pot's beanbag sofa. Recently, we came across Squint, a design group based in London that does amazing custom patchwork upholstery on a variety of styles of furniture...
Squint Limited was formed when designer Lisa Whatmough wanted to show off her collection of textiles. The custom pieces are not cheap (re-upholstered Egg Chairs, top, start at £3000!) but we thought the collection was wonderfully inspirational. I kinda like the first pic with the chair. Has a nice bohemian quality to it, plus I love the shape of the chair...not so fond of the sofa or the bed though, it looks too busy for me.

Love it. Of course you've got to put one of those in an otherwise completely white room, so the one piece of patchwork furniture really pops. Otherwise, yes it would be too busy.

there's a shop in EastHampton NY that does this as well.. I've forgotten the name of the designer.

I "patchwork" looks best when at least one fabric is used in multiple areas, hopefully well-placed.
That brings a little more cohesion.
If the same fabric is not available, then some repetition of similar color & tone, along with the other elements.
I think the 1st couch & bench work the best in this group, but I have seen better examples.
