Patent Design Art from Vintagraph

While searching for some affordable art, I came across these delightful patent illustrations at Vintagraph, a poster gallery and store operated by vintage photography blog Shorpy. The collection includes posters of patent designs for buildings, trains, cars, and hood ornaments from the 1920s through the 1950s.

The newly added hood ornament designs are wonderful examples of the art deco influence on industrial design of the early 1950s. There also are some amusing designs for novelty vehicles such as the original Oscar Mayer Weinermobile.

Vintagraph's images are meticulously restored from high-resolution Library of Congress scans. The prints are made on archival, museum-grade paper and are available in a range of sizes starting at only $15. You can browse the full collection at Vintagraph.com. While you're there, check out their broad selection of WPA posters, another great source for affordable vintage art.
