Coming around a corner we saw this huge knit celebration of a rug designed by Patricia Urquoia. Since we're on the lookout for the rise of all things knit in 2009, we thought this was a great application and a cool idea as well: there are four basic rugs that can be put together in a number of different combinations.

MANGAS (engl. SLEEVES) is based on patchwork of different wool knits, to create a collection of various typologies with different shapes, going from Manga corta (short sleeve) to Manga de campana (bell-shaped sleeve). The result is a series of eight special carpets, full of nuances, due to their variety of textures and colors."

The oddly shaped ones confuse me, but damn, are they beautiful. And hey -- so is Patricia Urquoia. :)
This crazy quilt trend where objects and furnishings are designed to defiantly and intentionally mismatch is almost as predictable, oppressive, and calculated as the trend where everything must match perfectly. It is beginning to look less and less personal and spontaneous with each passing day.
The oddly-shaped ones look like the beginner's practice samplers from Jacqueline Fee's knitting book The Sweater Workshop.
What's the price point, and more importantly, where can I find them?! I've been desperately searching for a rug in my color scheme (teal and lemongrass) and these are amazing!

While I tend to agree with RichardinLA in general, the execution of this is just so brilliant! It's endearing, really, which is what the whole tendency originated as. And the color scheme - exquisite! I'm in love.
Awkward turn of phrase there, sorry: it's not that I usually agree with Richard, it's that the trend does seem like it should be on its way out.
