Queen, for a day. From Lady Stark to dragon-rearing silver-haired beauties, bawdy dames and ladies in waiting, the women of Westeros and beyond the Wall are no Disney Princesses. They're strong, exotic, armored and sexy. Who wouldn't love a room where any of these women would feel at home, plotting their next move and making those silly kings feel like they wear the crowns in the family?
The visually rich Game of Thrones (written word or DVR'd episode) provides an unending source of design inspiration… classic castles, exotic Qarth, red sands and limestone walls, firelight and wild fire. That rich mix (inspired by history but never a slave to it, pulling from Celtic, Norse, Byzantine, Persian and other global wanderings) is also the best way to assemble a room: masculine, feminine, a mix of woods and influences, a touch of glitter (armor or gold). And there's a range of pieces, available now to create your own very own castle and still stay current.
1. Studded Shelter Sofa, Saladino Style
2. Wainscott Armchair, Blackman Cruz
3. William on Mary (oh my!) Chest on Stand, McAlpine Home for MacRae
4. Spanish Parcel Gilt Coffre, Therien & Co

6. Souk Side Table, Currey & Company

Gorgeous picks. I understand why you chose them, but I'd still love to see pieces that us normal non-designers can purchase.
I'll take the valet and the rug, please.
You make Game of Thrones sound so much better than it is. The fabrics and furnishings are luscious, yes, but the series is too lewd and violent for me. My husband watches it. :\
(Whoever does the hair for GOT should have their mousse taken away. The wigs are awful.)
Austinpeahen-- Currey & Company items are available without a designer, as are Therien, Lee, Blackman Cruz and Mortise & Tenon.
At first glance I though oh ugh too much! too much! but the more that I looked at each item the more I thought, well, oh my, how very nice!
Great inspiration (books and DVDs) and great choices!
My favourites are 3,5, 7 and 8.
I just finished Book 5.
I have VERY mixed feelings about the stories, about the characters, and about the whole idea of living in a space inspired by them, with all the killing, torture, incest, brutality, and general evil...
But I have always been attracted to throne-like chairs for some reason (not that I own one, though) and that carved chest in pic number 4 is simply gorgeous.
As for the series, I think the production is stunning. (No problem with the wigs, adore the costuming, most of the sets are perfect -- although beyond the Wall there should be FOREST, not bare snowy rocks -- and the overall imagery cannot be faulted! If you like the books!)
#3 is a perfect shade - would you call it "ebony" - that dark smoky wood?
Not sure the whole style would work for me but always nice to have outlandish aspirations!
