Name: Peaches
Location: Chicago, Illinois
My 400sqft, two bedroom, “rabbit hutch bungalow” apartment is over 120 years old, a registered landmark, and loaded with some serious quirks (no closets, low ceilings, paint forbidden, etc). I’m leaving it at the end of September and thought I would take a few photos first. My previous home was nearly four times the size, and the last two years of living in this space has challenged my sense of space and reason. In other words, it drove me nuts! I loved every precious minute of it :)
A friend of mine described my style as “Dorothy Draper meets John Waters” and that was pretty swell! I tend to accumulate unusual things and arrange them in traditional ways; candy dishes and dinosaurs in a every room (someone has to stand guard), solid gold garden gnomes, a black velvet painting of Inigo Montoya above the bed, etc...they all look very “normal” at first until you take a moment to examine them closer. Biggest challenge is keeping things orderly or it all gets cluttered — not that clutter is a bad thing in my mind. I like the see everything at once. Some people need space and order to think straight, but my brain just isn't wired that way. White space makes me nervous. What’s the purpose in owning something beautiful if you keep it in a drawer or a box under the bed? Take it out and let it dance!

Shaw's Original Fir...
i want that inigo montoya painting. .....!!!!
Hello. My Name Is A from IsItAHouseYet. Your place is amazing. Prepare to receive compliments.
(no, really - I love this place).
oh wow.
love!
I love it, and a friend and I are already lusting after that Inigo Montoya painting...
Love it! I see a precious little orangey stripey kitty on the sofa too...
The Inigo Montoya painting is one of the coolest things ever!!!!!!!
Mmm the book pages in the living room... I'll be copying you in the near future. Great place!
I love, love, love it all. Glittery brachiosaurus, sexy Spaniards, all kinds of interesting lighting, and labeled drawers (I imagine even the tags themselves have playful and evocative names)... you must smile all the time wen you are home.
Yours home is delightfuly stimulating without tipping into TOO MUCHness. Good luck with your move and I hope you'll share another house call or tour of your new place once you get settled/scattered/smothered/chunked.
It looks charming. But really, AT - 3 of 5 photos are vignettes???
Inigoooo! <3
the other stuff's cute too :P
yay Aunt Peaches - love her website :)
@babyfishmouth-
I'm with you. I would have loved to see more of the room. Is this a studio apt?
Inigo Montoya! That's just amazing, and I am incredibly jealous.
I really want to see more of this place! SO original!
Also, I freaking love The Princess Bride!
house tour!
Would have loved to see more of the space, too, instead of 3 vignettes. But what little we can see is pretty darn rad. Like that glittery dinosaur. That makes me so happy, you don't even know. ROCK ON.
amazing!!
Something about your home makes me just swoon with happiness - wow!
A from IsItAHouseYet, great, great, great comment :)
And yes, I do agree with others that I want to see more but for some reason, I wasn't super-annoyed with only 2 full shots.
For our first Christmas, I made my (now) fiance a series of four framed screenshots from The Princess Bride. This inspired me to get it out of the closet and hang it up again!
Love it! Great great great space :)
what a fun place! Fabulous. I also have the same green pillow from Anthropologie and b&w checker board floor in my kitchen. want a closer look at the pretty kitty, too!
"Take it out and let it dance!" I agree.
Craft just featured that Velvet Inigo yesterday. I pinned it. It's from this guy: http://velvetgeek.com/
He says Inigo is sold.
Love how cheeky this is ;)
I just Pinned the Inigo print and added it to my "Things That Make Me Smile" board. It not only made me smile, it made me giggle.
Thank you for your wonderful style.
LOL I misread "Dorothy" as "Donald" Draper and thought I don't get it. But, very fun and beautiful. Mandy Potampkin(sp?) is way underused as a decorative motif.
What a fun place! I would love the meet Peaches based on her taste in decor alone.
Source for the lovely geometric rug?
400 sq ft? my place is 400 sq ft and can barely fit one bedroom (technically, its a bed alcove)! I would have loved to see how this was actually laid out
