Peanut Butter & the Pen

After touring Rachel Cole's kitchen over at our sister site, The Kitchn, we were curious about 18 Reasons, the San Francisco-based art/food/community hub where Rachel works. Particularly, we were intrigued by the incredibly cool-sounding workshop that 18 Reasons offers, which teaches kids how to write about food.

Peanut Butter & the Pen sounds so cool, frankly, we wish we could go, but it's geared exclusively toward the 8-to-12 set. During the two-hour session, kids get to taste food, read excerpts of great food literature, and "use writing to explore the how food gets from the ground to our table." At the end of the workshop, each kid leaves with their own piece of food writing, perfect for giving as a gift to parents, grandparents, or foodie friends.

Workshop leader Sondra Hall is the Director of "Take My Word For It!", an organization that teaches creative writing to kids.

The next Peanut Butter & the Pen workshop is being offered on December 5th. Find out more, including online registration info, on their website. (Click on the "Calendar" link, then go to December.)
