Q: I fell in love with the round pedestal table featured on a recent Boston Scavenger post. I'm sure I can't afford both the table and the shipping all the way from Boston to Los Angeles! Can Los Angeles Apartment Therapy readers help me find this table in or around the LA area?
I would be thrilled to find this exact one, but am open to similar ones. The only thing I'm picky about is that I love the heaviness of the base. Most pedestal tables have a four-legged base supporting the pedestal, which gives the table more of a country feel. I like the formality of the nearly-solid base on this pedestal. Can LA AT readers help? Thank you!

Editor - Anyone in Los Angeles seen a pedestal table in similar style locally to recommend to Marigny?

Shaw's Original Fir...
Not sure your budget but have you tried the usual suspects? Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel? Or perhaps you can try thrift stores. This painted table is cute: http://www.russellmackenna.com/painted-furniture/tables--worktops/dining-tables/wendy-pedestal-table-4/
It's a beautiful table, the style is Empire judging from the feett
I have one in storage that has been sitting there forever... It belonged to my granny and no one in the family likes it because of the solid base- it is just too formal for us... I can check and see if my mom would be willing to sell it to you?
I found this exact table at a home tag sale and paid $50 for it -- excellent condition and fits perfectly in my 700 sq ft NYC apartment. good luck finding one.
Yes, it is an Empire style table. You should be able to find this without too much trouble. Just keep trolling craigslist and antique shops if you've got a bit more budget. These are not terribly uncommon.
One nice thing about Empire, too, is that it had two heydays — the mid to late 19th century, and then an early 20th-century revival. You should be able to find a similar table for a couple hundred bucks, like a 20th-century one. My husband and I have one so, so much like that, and it was $200 a few years ago. A great style because it can look both trad or modern!
I own a table very similar to your picture. It is made by Mitchell Gold and called the ARTHUR TABLE.

They also have the BERKLEY TABLE:

I have a very similar table that I've been wanting to sell. I got it an estate sale in DC several years ago. The catch is that I'm in SF, but if you're up this way and you've got some room in your car, we can talk!
Nearly exact table in San Diego. I passed it up for a more slender model they had but check it out here - Paradise Antiques: http://www.paradiseantiques.com//maillist/gallery/index.php?list=Furniture
It's an Empire table. Check antiques stores and flea markets. You might also want to look for Biedermeier furniture if you like that look.
This is a great time to be buying antiques since they're a bit out of favor at the moment with the MCM/glossy-white-paint craze.
Antique dealers will be very happy to educate you about Empire furniture and will often keep an eye out for the specific type of piece you want if you leave them your contact info.
bemyescape already mentioned Restoration Hardware - it was what I first thought of (though their table is similar to - or the same as - the Mitchell Gold one). They have it in two sizes.

Thank you all for your great information! It's nice to know that it's Empire style, and to learn so much about it.
Michey, that table at Paradise Antiques does look lovely. I'll definitely call.
ajnblue and Shep, yes, I am interested in the possibility of buying one of your tables. Please email me directly at the following email address -- (remove the signs and put in the usual dot before "com".) marignymichel @ yahoo com.
I appreciate all your suggestions. I have lots of options to check out now. Just in case future posters add information, I'll keep checking this post and let y'all know when I've successfully found my table.
Oops. I tried to separate my email address information using "plus" signs, but they don't show up on my screen. Oh, well. I think you get the idea. Hope I didn't just feed the spam robots!
