Pegboard Recycling Stations

Recycling stations don't have to be ugly. These sorting areas from Crown Paint (left) and Martha Stewart (right) are outfitted with pegboard and basic recycling supplies, adding some color and creativity to an otherwise mundane corner of the kitchen. There are a few good reasons to use pegboard as a backdrop for recycling...

• Pegboard differentiates the recycling area and adds texture and color.
• With pegboard, recycling bins can be hung from the wall.
• Useful tools such as scissors and bin liners can be stored on hooks.
• Paint the pegboard with a coat of semigloss or gloss for ease of cleaning.
• Additional kitchen supplies can be hung above the recycling bins.

Good idea, especially since the recent theft of my recycle bin has made me bitter. :(

We FINALLY solved our recycling problem recently.

Which means that now, instead of paper bags full of recycling, we have three SKRIN bins, with lids, all lined up in a row.

Why is pegboard just. so. GREAT? And why don't I have any in my apartment yet? I love this idea.

Is there any way I can cover up the ugly tile in my kitchen with pegboard?

I like the stenciled images above each bin in the green photo. Unfortunately, I don't have the space to do this, but I did once live in an apartment with pegboard in the kitchen. I hung all my pots and pans on it... that was awesome! (I think there was an earlier post about those too.)
