Years later, we are still fans of Julia Child's pegboard full of pots and pans: it's practical for small spaces, and keeps your cooking tools at an arm's reach. For those of you who are thinking of building your own, check out these great examples below, and find a tutorial on how to make one here.

I recently did this, too! It's so nice having all my favorite kitchen gadgets close at hand.

Just wondering about the pegboard back splash. My experience with pegboard is that if gets wet it expands and swells like paper. seems like a bad deal behind the sink. super cute, though.
Some of these are great, esp. #4. But I wouldn't a pegboard directly over the stove, as some of these are.
Also, in pic #1 -- putting spices on or near your stove is a sure-fire way for them to lose potency and flavor at record speed.
sorry, wouldn't *want* a pegboard directly over the stove...
I'm going to give myself credit for this post since I commented on the julia child like pegboard in colorful kitchen post of yesterday. glad to see it too.
fancyd I was thinking the same thing. love the look. and I think behind a stove would be fine... but maybe similar problems is the worry
I really like the look of pegboards in a kitchen. Thanks for the great collection of links and practical 'how-to's" I'm going to put them to good use.
My husband always wanted a pegboard with pans on it, but our pans are not attractive or pristine and I don't want to look at them. I'd rather stack them on a shelving unit. Still handy but not the focal point.
I LOVE THE COW!
I have a blank wall behind my stove, and I would love to do this... but wouldn't your seldom-used pots and pans get greasy?
I'm not trying to be rude, but I just can't get into pegboard. It seems so cheap and cluttered and I would never want it... some of these are cute, just not for me. I don't like things hanging all over the walls unless it's artwork, bikes, maybe an odd unexpected item, but not kitchen pots, pans and tools...
I have just covered my kitchen in pegboard and it was the best move ever..Tons of storage space has been added to my kitchen..Above the stove I have purchased a metal pegboard from an online store and it works great..I even placed a piece of the board on the end of my metro shelf for utensils....you can even buy little baskets that fit on the pegboard..my source for my kitchen has been diamond life.com..love the products there..I am very picky so they really have to be perfect..lol
Metal pegboard - genius! I'd be worried about the board getting nasty, but you could just take it outside and spray it down. I'm definitely doing this in my new place. There's an ugly watermark on one of the kitchen cabinets and I think I know how I'd like to cover it up now...
Diamondlifegear.com is where the metal pegboard can be found..my fav.....
looks handy but always make me feel like it should be in the garage...the only one I like at all is the blue one where the look of the pegboard disappears
Neat idea but not sure that it would quite work in my kitchen
Absolutely great idea. Especially for you renters out there. I always love inexpensive and creative ways to gain more storage. It is also a nice way to experiment with color. Works for me!
Have any of you who rent ever tried this using command strips (the heavy duty velcro kind for hanging frames and such) to hang the pegboard instead of drilling into the walls? You know- less patching and painting when you move out? Do you think it would hold enough weight or is that stupid?
The command strips I have tried, don't even hold a picture with a good size frame on it...
I think the metal pegboard is a great idea, very modern. Also could try using outdoor paint on it with a sealant of some kind to make it scrub-able..
We just put up a pegboard on our huge empty kitchen wall. I LOVE having all the pots and pans organized and in arm's reach! http://pinterest.com/pin/81135230758671860/
