This room features a beautiful Benjamin Moore blue paint...but only on the ceiling and the top third of the wall. The "line" where the blue meets the warm white of the rest of the wall is done very loosely; a perfectly imperfect look that appears to be left unfinished, on purpose. What do you think?
It's a romantic look that suits the vintage style furnishings and finishes of the room well, but we're curious about how many of you would feel comfortable giving something like this a try in your own home. Is this type of decorative paint treatment one that you would go for?
Paint Colors used:
• Upper wall & ceiling: Benjamin Moore Smoke 2122-40
• Lower wall: Benjamin Moore Etiquette AF-50

I think this is one of those things that looks cool in an editorial, but would look weird in someone's home.
I think it looks like an unfinished paint job. WTH?
I think its very calming and whimsical...
I like the idea but I think if the point where the colors met was a bit softer, it would be more effective in giving that airy quality to the room.
Very interesting idea. Might try it in a loft bedroom with sloped ceiling. Lofts are weird little spaces anyway... I think it'd fly!
A friend of mine had ends of purple and white paint, and did the room in a similar way, but with several stripes of purple that got paler and paler as it went higher up the wall. I liked that, but this one feels too much like an unfinished job to me.
It looks romantic, but impractical. Great for those who really like the look.
I'd love watching my friends with OCD tendencies squirm! lol
Any source for that bed?
yeah, paint schmaint, I want the bed
This is what I was referring to:

It's interesting and could work in the right space. I think an ombre paint job might be more versatile and equally interesting.
Not crazy about it, but since the colors are both very light, it KIND of works.
I did this to a Large picture frame.
See it here
If the colors were flipped, it might remind me of a cloud floating in a blue sky, but as is, it just looks sort of.... drippy.
Good job Plastolux...looks amazing! In regards to the room, it looks like a shorter person tried to paint without a ladder. I dig the whimsical Parisian white-wash look, but the walls are definitely not my style.
I would give this a try with a slight modification, make it feel firmly intentional by adding an outline to ~20% of the color intersection with a thin line of bold color. A fawn brown like Ben. Moore lake shore trail, a dark rose like Ben. Moore pink corsage or a slate blue like Ben. Moore mozart blue would work with the warm white/light blue shown.
this looks just like my apartment now.
but only because i am too lazy/do not have a ladder tall enough to finish. i definitely didn't do it on purpose and definitely do not like the look of it here nor at home.
it has such a beautiful whimsy look. Like a young Marie Antoinette might step into the picture at any minute.

I have been thinking of doing something like this, more or less.
Waiting for the warmer, painting weather.
Also, like Plastolux, I was thinking about doing this to an object in another room (a diff. one from the room-to-paint)... a bookcase.
What makes this work is the blue ceiling. If the ceiling were white, it would just be strange
Plastolux: I agree! this is exceptionally creative. I love it.
I love it. Just not for my flat.
This would make me twitch. I recently got out an exacto blade to score, and remove slight imperfections in the corners of my room where the paint colors meet. Staying more than a day in here would me detrimental to my sanity I'm sure.
Creepy.
I enjoy it, but it is very far from my personal taste so I wouldn't do it to my home. But I have certain friends that I think it fits nicely with, or would like it in a small hotel out in the coutryside.
Here's what it looks like:
This wife spent all day painting the bottom, but she's short and waited for the husband to get home so he could finish it...
I'm guessing he never got "around to it" and she's decided to fool us all into thinking it was on purpose ;)
Looks like my bedroom. Except that wasn't on purpose. After moving into my place, I had to cover up a big green square on the wall, so I went for the close-but-no-cigar can i found in my closet.
I love this, such a good contrast with the soft but controlled bedroom decor. Feels light and airy. Years ago I did something like this, painted a ceiling a teal green, and one wall a chinese red, but left a whispy edge so that the red did not quite meet the green, and the white of the other walls peaked through. It was a place of "contemplation".
@ande2994
Think of it the other way around: you (and your stuff) are on the cloud in the sky.
Ummm...no. Hire a professional painter & "dry brush" where 2 colors meet when they are still wet. Soft gradual blending from pale blue sky to warm white at base. This will create the illusion of "Floating" Lightness" Airy" calm, zen serenity that they were seeking.
I wouldn't do any of the good drugs in there. Talk about a trip. Seriously, it would freak me out. I would wake up everyday thinking I forgot something.
But I agree, I want the bed!
I like the whimsical look, and I do think they pulled it off rather well. May also be nice and calming in a nursery.
i think some of you guys aren't quite getting the point... its NOT supposed to be the gradient treatment... thats what makes it worth showing... definitely not for everyone, but its great that the world of wall paint has finally said 'hey, you don't have to have cute little accent walls to have different colors'
I love it, and think it's definatly something I would want to do in my own home. Even in those exact colours. But sense most houses have lower celings, I think it might look nice about some where in between shoulder hight of myself and my husband 5'6"-6'2". Certainly with a celing that high I would absoutly do the same hight as in the picture.
I love that etire room.
ha..oh yes..have had this 'look' in many rooms/many places..not on purpose...like lemondrop said.....this is pretty..but I also feel somettttthhhhinnngggg isn't righttttt....something..love the room.
Looks more like an all white skyline against the backdrop of a clear sky. I kind of like it.
I think it would look very cool if the bottom part had a very soft faded in and out damask pattern stenciled all over it. It needs something to "ground" it and warm the room up! It's a concept worth expanding upon, I think! Agree about the ceiling HAVING to be blue as well....
