Given their simple design, floating shelves, like ikea's lack shelf, are perfect candidates for a textile makeover. The basic premise is to wrap the lack shelf as you would a present and staple the fabric on the back where the shelf meet the wall.

I love the idea of using floating shelves for dishes and glassware...because it's a lot cheaper than buying a hutch!
Thanks, Leah! Ever since I saw the D*S diy project, it's been on my "to do" list for my kitchen shelves. Time to finally buy some grass cloth!
Leah,
Is there a specific link for the Martha Stewart photo? I'm using lots of gray and silver and would love to where the storage boxes are from! The link just goes to the MS homepage.
Thanks!
I really love the Martha Stewart shelves -- gorgeous. That whole office is just lovely.
Anyone know where the lamp in the Martha Stewart image is from?
Thank you for showing Robert's work! He is the BEST!
All the best,

I've updated the link with the specific link, thanks for catching that. It's from the February 2008 issue of Martha Stewart Living, but I didn't see a source for the storage box. You can always use the same principle as the wallpapered/fabric covered shelves to cover a standard ikea office storage box. Good luck!
This is EXACTLY what I need after having the inspiration to cover my lack shelves in vintage fabric over the weekend. Apartment Therapy comes through, as usual :)
