Petite Potties: Wall Hung Toilets

Toilets — not exactly a hot design topic. But while we may try to avoid seeing them as much as possible, there are some toilets that are much better looking than others. In fact, when it comes to wall hung toilets, not only are they nicer looking, but they're also space-saving and easier to clean than their traditional floor-mounted counterparts.

Rather than sitting directly only the floor, wall hung toilets are mounted to the wall. The tank that would normally go on top of, or behind, the toilet is hidden inside the wall. Tanks are integrated into carriers that fit between either 2x4 or 2x6 studs, and the toilet bowl can be mounted to the wall at a variety of heights. This provides a clear space underneath, which makes cleaning a lot easier. But the biggest benefit is the 6"-9" gained by hiding the tank in the wall. In addition, wall hung toilets tend to be much sleeker and more contemporary than standard toilets, but would fit in any style home. There is always a downside (of course), which is that the space-efficient design comes at a price tag 1.5 - 2x the cost of floor mounted toilets.
