Looks like wallpaper and wall graphics are still hot in a big way these days. If you're looking to do shake things up a bit in your house, consider using your photographs to create personalized wallpaper.
We think a candid black and white photo like the one in this image looks great blown-up on the wall. The room looks warm, welcoming and sophisticated. A little sleuthing and we discovered that you can contact your local printer to see if they offer this large format printing service. Many do. We were quoted a price per square foot. The image can be printed on large sheets that are installed just like wallpaper. The sheets have a latex coating to protect them from damage. Anyone tried this before?

While I haven't done it in my home, I work for a museum where we use this process regularly in our exhibits. My first thoughts: keep in mind is that if your home has a dramatic changes in temperature or humidity (in a short amount of time, not seasonally) the paper will peel up. Also, colors fade faster than others in bright light, so black and white would be a safer bet. Also, you must clean your wall really well (dust and dirt is the enemy) if you want it to adhere evenly. If I were doing it, I would also consider applying the adhesive vinyl to foamcore or gatorboard instead of directly to the wall, and then attaching the foamcore to the wall (nails/screws), for ease of removal if you don't want it there too permanently.
Can anyone ID that pink chair?
Um, ok, that's pretty awesome. I'm not always a fan of big impact graphics and such, but I LOVE that photo, and the overwhelming feeling of simple joy it gives the room. So, so sweet. I have some neat vintage family photos like that, but most are a little out of focus--I certainly don't have any that would stand up to that kind of magnification.
Cute. Reminds me of the larger-than-life Abercrombie & Fitch poster of half-naked male models my friend Gil hung over his bed in college.
I wonder if you could use liquid starch (a laundry product) for a less permanent effect. I've used it to adhere fabric silhouettes to walls (see here and here.
It washes off with soapy water, in case the photo thing gets old.
The chair looks like an Eames armchair, but I've never seen one in pink before. Maybe a knockoff?
Now THAT makes a house personal and sweet.
Modernica does the chair in pink. And I believe you can select whatever base you want.
I agree that adhering it to something else and then putting it on your wall is a good idea. Printers can print on Tyvek which might be your best bet. The colors aren't as saturated but that wouldn't be a problem doing black and white. We printed all our long term banners that had to withstand moisture on tyvek when I was working as a graphic designer, but I'm not sure how big it can go, I imagine it would vary from printer to printer.
I love this look. And would love to do it in our next home where we hope to root. I just worry too that my image qualities would not maybe be so great for such a large sizing. I like the black and white too.
