What inspired you?
I'm inspired by odd, interesting things. I rarely pay retail preferring thrift stores, Craigslist and flea markets. Currently I love anything 70's (Lucite chandelier $15.00). I am also now inspired by rich color. When my partner died in 2001, everything in my mind turned very black and white (depression). I had realized I lost a part of me with his death. I went very plain in my home. Very Zen in feel, no color, hence the birch walls. Coming out of that depression was made easier by way of color and exploring the colors that speak to me.
Besdies mirroring walls, play with all your lighting. Example: In the recessed crown moldings in living room pics, I have hidden behind the crevice opening a combination of orange and red intertwined Christmas lights. In the large white floor lamp in living room, I have a pink bulb. The combo of both lighting tricks creates a warm feel; much like that of a fireplace, without h! aving the maintenance of one. In the side walls that show the large framed photographs, I built the floating wall of unfinished birch out from wall about 3 inches, hid some rope lights behind the walls, so the photographs glow from underneath at night.
