A lot of brightly colored and trendy kids stores have popped up in our neighborhood in the last few years. Pickleboots opened its doors this past April. What's unique about Pickleboots is their large selection of fabrics and beautiful custom-made bedding, sewn by owner Melanie Williams herself.
The fabric choices for crib bedding are unusual, and the best part is, they are sold by the piece, so you don't have to committ to any one style. You can mix or match freely. Pricing is available here. You'll also find custom bedding for twin, full and queen beds, as well as a moses basket. You'll also find glider cushion slipcovers. Covers can be custom made for any cushion that can be shipped to Pickleboots. To get started, you can email a photo of your cushion to make sure they can be slipcovered. Here are a couple of our favorite fabrics...
Hoot Pink is $12 a yard. It also comes in "Hoot Blue".
Dotty Dot is also $12 a yard. Polka dots are everywhere in nursery design, but this is one pattern we haven't seen before.
Groovy Guitar in Cherry is another one of our fav's.
We've heard that starting in September, they'll also be selling El Greco hand-crafted children's furniture, made in upstate New York. You'll also find retro toys here like ironing boards and irons, but fabric is definitely the centerpiece in this pretty little store. It doesn't look as though you can order through the website yet, but you can view fabrics online and order over the phone, or send them an email.

Reminescent of Plain Jane Kids... have they gone out of business?
If you're talking about Plain Jane in Manhattan, Melanie was the owner of that store with her two friends. They closed in Nov of 2006 and then Melanie moved to Park Slope.
Ahhh... that explains it!
Plain Jane was the first baby store I ever set foot into, and when the time came (after much searching) we got our custom turquoise crib from them. And then a year or so later, the toddler adapter.
