A while ago, we posted about using a dedicated iPad, as a digital picture frame for displaying family pictures. But honestly, we think using an iPad in such fashion is a waste of a fine device for a very mundane task. Here are some models we think are better suited, if a digital photo frame is what you're looking for...
This LCD screen with backlighting, has a gap in between the screen and the back to give the illusion of a light box. We love how the photos are displayed; almost like floating, instead of being displayed; and that you can use it as a mood lamp, with the light pouring from the sides and top. It can browse the net via WiFi for pictures or you can store/download them direct to the device via the USB connection.
This intelligent device features way more than a regular picture frame. We love the amazing touches like, WiFi, RJ45 connectivity and the 10.2 wide screen LCD. Comes with built-in 2GB media storage, SD card support and even over the air, firmware updates. You can automatically sync with social photo applications like Picasa, Flickr and Facebook and even check your day's events via Google Calendars. Did we mention that it shows weather conditions too? This is more like a tablet than a digital picture frame!
Sony DPF D80
This is a "small" picture frame at only 8" with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The 800 x 600 pixels resolution and 256 MB of internal memory makes it look a tad obsolete against the competition; but the form factor surely get brownie points on the design field. Thank God for the expansion slot, which you can use to add pictures or capacity. We love the sensor for auto rotation and the ability to support 10 slide show styles and 2 clock modes, calendar and index view.
