If ever you are stuck for conversation with someone you've met a few times before but haven't quite gotten to know them very well (yet), there are a few topics you can explore: 1) What's the best food they've ever eaten; 2) What they love most about their hometown; 3) What position do they typically sleep in?
This last question may seem a bit forward and nosy, but you'll be surprised by how many people are willing to share this information, along with other interesting tidbits (like what kind of neck/back/shoulder pains they currently suffer from and pillow thickness they prefer). Photographer Jacob Pritchard takes this a few steps further with his ongoing project, "Pictures in Bed"
This voyeuristic peek inside the lives of strangers is truly fascinating, and Pritchard does an admirable job of allowing us into these intimate moments...and perhaps finding similarities and a sense of connection with people we'll probably never know or meet.

For an online community like ours where we interact with each other behind user names, it's comforting to know that other people share our own quirks--even if it's as simple as hogging the whole bed and sleeping like a starfish...or admitting to once owning a Nelson Twins poster...or even revealing a fear of snakes in the toilet. So, to that end, thanks for sharing your thoughts, readers. It's always a pleasure getting to know you.

I find this fascinating as well. I did a whole series of paintings and prints of people sleeping: http://jessicadunegan.com/art/series/3.
These are beautiful and all the beds look so comfy on this dreary rainy Chicago morning!
I like matter-of-fact and slice-of-life photography like this... :) So interesting and refreshing!
When I was at the Dia Beacon years back, I bought this book in their gift shop. I think it's infinitely more amusing, and pleasing to the eye. http://www.eviltwinpublications.com/BEDS.html
You can click through and look at the photos. It's all beds that have been slept in paired with intriguing words.
This is really interesting. Its funny how such a simple concept is so intriguing. And I have to agree with @maybeamezzo, those beds look really comfortable!
If someone asked me what position I slept in, unless I was hoping they would join me, I would be creeped out.
I love the last one, with the guy snuggling with the girl and his teddy bear.
" so ummmm.... come here often?"
*nervous laugher*
"yeah...what's your favourite position in bed?"
Somehow I don't see this working :-P
The last one is my fave also. I wonder how did he take these pictures.
souk...it appears he didn't. Meaning if you look at each shot they all are holding a remote. He probably set up the shot and let them snap the photos themselves.
Apropos of nothing...this post reminded me of this stop motion video that has a similar feel. Thought it would be nice to share.

You can also see the set up if you look at the edge of the beds...tripod legs for lighting and camera mount. Since the subjects have the option of when and how to take the shot, I wonder how true the images actually are to their bed habits. It seems so odd to me to lay and the opposite end of the bed as my partner to read.
Lying opposite ends is amazing for anyone who wears painful shoes, or stands all day. Guilt your partner into a foot massage with the sight of your blisters!
The last picture is much like me and my fiance at the end of the day - except I'm the one asleep while he reads. I can sleep with almost any amount of lights on as long as I'm comfy.
Stephanie K -- Just to mention, rainy days the second picture is something me and the fiance have done often. We just toss off the heavy blankets, drape a light throw in the middle and just set ourselves up on opposite ends. Either we both have a book or one has the laptop and the other a book - it's extremely comfy and I love being that close to him. BTW, the one with the laptop does get the end with headboard - LOL.
