You say you love your chickens, do ya? Well, the question is whether you love them as much as these owners, who have spared no expense and no amount of creativity in devising these decked out poultry palaces. Which one is your favorite?

I *wish* I could have chickens... *sigh* But thanks for a fun post of chicken cribs, at least!
What great inspiration for my next project. Heres some photos of my movable chicken tractor coop.

I'm not sure whether chickens are allowed where I live, but my husband and I have toyed around with the idea of one day having some if it turns out they are. Now I know where to look for inspiration should we ever get some! Although on second thought, we talked about getting chickens *before* we adopted an English pointer. He'd probably terrorize the chickens. I think perhaps I'll stick to buying eggs from a local farm. ;-)
I love #8 it can be a great parrot house too :-D

Check your local ordinance. Some or most towns have bans on owning livestock.
If my farm owning Iowa relatives saw those chicken houses they would laugh their a**es off. Those fancy chicken houses are only to impress your friends and neighbors and certainly not the chickens. They are very cute though.
I hope they are easy to clean since chicken coop's get very smelly.
Aww, so cute. I'm thinking of doing something like the green roof coop. The roof will be planted with... hens and chicks.
Fun article. :)
Proof positive that the backyard chicken has come back to stay!
A backyard coop needs to be designed around the needs of the chicken as well as be easy to maintain and pleasant on the eye. I have had my own City Biddy Hen House for about 6 years now and it still is one of the best investments I ever made for my urban lifestyle.
Where we live the temperature varies widely from about 25 below wind chills in winter to over 100 degrees in the summer. You need to be certain that any coop you build can provide the proper protection for your hens through all of the seasons like my coop does. I got my plans at http://www.uBuilderPlans.com
Finally, since I built my coop using a plan I was able to make it and even more eco-friendly choice by using a large percentage of used lumber to build it with. If we are trying to live a better greener lifestyle we need to do it all of the way. Having backyard chickens is just another way to stay connected to our food source and teach our children to respect the world in which we live.
