The Ping Pong Door was a big hit on Ohdeedoh, but we wanted to make certain that all the New Yorkers saw this one too! I've longed for the room for a proper table tennis venue in my apartment — and while this particular design by Tobias Franzel still wont' fit into my own space, it is a step in the right direction...
The door has a swing-out panel that turns the doorway into a mini ping pong table — a multi-purpose object perfect for small spaces (or ping pong tables in general, who wants to store them?).
Now, someone needs to design an apartment sized badminton court...

Shaw's Original Fir...
I actually really like this idea. Haha.
Yes, I thought this was a funny item when I first read it a couple of years ago: http://www.geekologie.com/2007/10/play_ping_pong_on_a_half_green.php
October 2007? Yikes
"Bunny Bixler and I were in the semi-finals - the Very semi-finals, mind you - of the ping-pong tournament at the club and this Ghastly Thing happened.
We were both playing Way over our heads and the score was 29-28. And we had this Really terrific volley and I stepped back to get this Really terrific shot.
And I stepped on the ping-pong ball! I just squashed it to bits...
And then Bunny and I ran to the closet of the game room to get another ping-pong ball and the closet was locked! Imagine? We had to call the Whole Thing Off.
Well, it was ghastly. It was simply ghastly."
Love this! Reminds me of the Nerf ping-pong set we had growing up that you could play on the dining room table. In fact, I think this combined with the Nerf set would be ideal because the spongy Nerf ball wouldn't travel as far or as fast to accommodate playing on something smaller than a regular sized ping pong table.
Pickled Rattlesnake?
Auntie Mame!
Thanks for the full Auntie Mame quote bepsf - it's one of my favorites!
Anyone see the Small Space Big Design episode where the guy in a small loft hung his table on the wall as art then when he wanted to play just placed it on top of his dining table?
Neither the door nor the dining table concepts would work in my apt but I do have a yard that with a bit more tweaking will hold a table - yippee!
This is a hoot!
Original. Not so much the door as that there is someone who has "longed for the room for a proper table tennis venue in my apartment " Not words you hear everyday.
I, too, have longed for a proper table tennis venue in my apartment! And yet, with this longing now sated, I can't help but wonder... for what shall I long? To whom shall I turn? Is this all there is to a dream?
As it turns out, playing table tennis is the single best physical activity for improving and maintaining high levels of brain function throughout your life -- and it improves your heart, balance, and overall fitness.
I couldn't do this full version, but if I made a half-version, I could fold it down from a closed door and practice alone, just for the exercise benefits. More entertaining than sit-ups!
But, then again, what isn't?
