Pinterest was never intended to be just for the ladies, but when 6 of 10 users are females between 18-49, sometimes it seems that way. Mediabistro cites articles about the social network's growing appeal toward men. In other news, another social network is filing a $5 billion IPO today. Facebook, maybe you've heard of it?

Just to clarify. 58% are women and 59% are between 25 and 49. not 60% women between 18-49. 42% are men. Those are two different groups that share numbers. It sounds like a much less margin this way.
I hope it brings more of us to the fold. And that the DIY category will be more than just 'I glued sparkles/flowers onto this!' I know it's for crafts too, but diy stuff for apartments (usable, and not just decorations) seem very sparse.
I do not consider myself a prude at all, but it seems like more and more men on Pinterest are using it to "pin" what is more or less, pornography. I'm all for artful nudes but boards dedicated to "panty shots" or "T&A" are a bit much. I feel like there are other outlets for that.
Pinterest is just another way for big brother to collect data about you. They wanted access to my Twitter account in exchange for my joining. No thanks.
as a female on pinterest, i hope more men join. my bf is on there but doesn't use it much. i love following men's style/fashion boards.
KelleyK, i have a few throwaway twitter accounts specifically for that purpose. :)
I heard someone describing Pintrest to someone who knew nothing of it.... "It's fantasy football for women."
I'm a guy and I have a Pinterest account. My pins are not porn, it's things I'm genuinely interested in; food, tech, dorky clothes, and neat things for around the house.
I'm a guy, and since I'm currently in a period of obtaining furniture and designing my living space, my "Pinterest porn" is cool furniture and room design. For me, it's easier to pin an image (for future reference) there than to save a pic to my hard drive. P.S. My Pinterest handle is Sam Chazon, in case anyone . . . cares . . . : )
I personally think that there is a large segment of the female population of users that utilize Pinterest in a way that makes it fall sorely short of it's potential. Instead of utilizing it as a design board - grouping objects together in a thoughtful and methodicla manner - it simply becomes like another way to conform with the masses, with little regard for individuality or originality (since it seems everyone posts the same ideas and pins over and over and over again)
I don't know if it will ever reach a male (or large enough) audience as successfully as it would like, only because of the large female presence that pigeonholes its use. I am a male and I have to sift through hundreds of pins regarding wedding dresses, hairstyles, baby photos, women's shoes, and twee disgusting looking cupcakes in order to find anything remotely interesting that I could relate to, even from a gender-neutral interest. I'd like to see more genuinely interesting pins with broader appeal to both genders, and a wide variety of tastes, and the presence of more men on Pinterest just to add some interest for everyone.
Lastly, I'd also like to point out that women do the softcore porn collection boards as well. Type in "Hot guys" and ye shall find.
Ditto kelleyk, I refused to join as I will not let them access my twitter or facebook contacts.
I hope my friends are not letting them access my info through their account either. I think it is terrible that the only way to join is to whore out your friend's contact info.
I have neither a facebook nor a twitter account and I use pinterest. You don't have to give them that information. And dancedancekj, you don't have to sift through other people's pins to find what you like. With their "pin it" button, you can pin all day the things you like from the sites you visit and not be bothered by the repeated pins of others.
