Last week our toilet stopped speaking to us. It's a new toilet (about 2 years) and it has the new low flush capability so that it CONSTANTLY clogs. But last week neither a plunger, nor a coat hanger or drain-o nor an old plumbing snake could do anything about it. We told our landlord and she called up her plumbers for upteen years, John and Danny (his father) from Pipe Rite on Canal Street. John arrived about 30 minutes later, used his industrial sized snake and got everything working again in minutes.
Pipe Rite is an old NY company and not a fancy one. They serve all of New York and have been liscensed plumbers since the 1970's. We recommend giving them a call if you need help.

(sigh) the low flush toilets and shower heads are the worst. Remember that Seinfeld episode? I wish there was an easier way to save water.

My contractor told me that there is a way to remove the shower's flow regulator. Unfortunately he disappeared before he told me how to do it. does anyone know how to do this, or where to learn?
There is a little ball inside the shower head that acts as a regulator. If you can open the shower head and take it out that should work. OR, you can just buy another shower head that isn't low flow. I think you can still do this in NYC.
Which bad toilet was this? I have to get a new one to replace my very bad low flow and I'll be sure not to get this one.

No water is being saved when you have to flush twice at every use and clean that bitch three times a week!
My old place was regular toilet and it didn't clog on me not once for the first two years there. Something was done to lower the flow and it became a frequent problem.

Get a Toto toilet- they may be a bit more expensive, but they are amazing!!! All plumbers say they are the best. I got the Toto Nexus love the clean lines, but any models with the G-max flush never clog!
With low flush toilets, if you have a "small job" hit the flicker; if you have a "large job" hold the flicker down and you will get the appropriate amount of water.

Julie-some models (at least the older ones) don't have the two option system. Those are definitely in the "bad" low flush category.
Hi. Hate my low flow toilet. Have a Kohler, which clogged constantly. Contacted Kohler and they let me exchange it (apparently the model had some sort of a problem)...New Kohler almost as bad...recent dinner guest clogged and unclogged toilet...have not heard from him since!!! Agree with Lady J...old toilet was a dream.
I thought those flushable diapers were cool, but now I am wondering if maybe they are really not so flushable...?
Low flow loos are awful. I have fixed my plumbing problems myself rather than risk the super coming in and swapping my toilet for a low flow one.
To even suggest that "all" of any type of product is bad is simply...ah...short-sighted?
I suggest to matilda and others that they do some research (and soul-searching) before spouting off. I'm sure there are some bad low-flush toilets as with any other product, and many good ones (the vast majority). You get what you pay for. And there are many low volume showerheads which are simply great (Oxygenics eg).
The benefits of saving water far outweigh the occasional inconvience you may face.
My parents have 2 Toto toilets, and no problems with them. One is 6 months old, the other one is 1-2 (maybe 3?) years.

my toilet has been clogged for quite some time now and I only have one toilet in my house(I live in an old plantation house). I've tried the palmolive, hot water, wire hanger, wet/dry vaccum. i don't know what else i should do. I don't really wanna spend tree hundred dollars on a plumber. what should I do. will you fo;s please help me out.
I used Pipe-Rite after reading the comments here, and they were fantastic. Showed up on time, gave me reasonable and professional quotes, and most importantly, did an excellent job. In addition, the job changed slightly, reducing the work. They told me that it would reduce the price by a couple hundred dollars. When I received the amended invoice, they had rounded the price down (something I've never experienced). I've since recommended them to several friends.
I just had Pipe Rite over this morning to fix a leaky faucet and the worst shower that was ever built. I was told to expect the plumber to show up sometime between 8 and 12... he showed up right at 8am sharp. He understood my desire to keep the sink as is (beautiful old porcelain thing, probably over a hundred years old) and really went the extra step to make it work like brand new again. At the same time, he indulged my inner contractor and showed me exactly how to repair the fixtures on my old sink should I need to do it again. The rate was reasonable, they worked quickly and were very honest about parts and diagnoses, and he was a nice guy to boot. Couldn't ask for a better experience and I'll be recommending them to everyone I know.
