The Super Bowl is this Sunday. What are your plans?
We aren't really that big on football; however, that doesn't stop us from fully reveling in the fun and utter ridiculousness that is Super Bowl Sunday. The halftime show, the commercials ... heck, even the game ... we enjoy it all.
We also love watching with as many people as possible. Sometimes we host a party and sometimes we head to a friend's place.
If you are hosting a Super Bowl party this year, there are plenty of ways to do it with a lighter impact.
The Lazy Environmentalist has a nice audio clip up on his site all about throwing a green Super Bowl Party.
We like a lot of his suggestions. For example: Serve Sun Chips. Why? Well, did you know about Sun Chips' Green-e label? We didn't, but it actually means that Sun Chips is off-setting its carbon emissions and plans to purchase energy certificates to match 100% of the electricity to produce Sun Chips in the US.
Other tips are pretty common sense -- make sure that all the snacks and beer you buy are organic. The Lazy Environmentalist recommends Wolavers Beer. Anheuser-Busch is even marketing organic beer these days, so its not hard to find at your local supermarket.
What about plates and silverware? The Lazy Environmentalist recommends Preserve's recycled plastic plates and silverware, but we think that using your own plates and silverware is a much better option. If you don't have enough, you could ask guests to bring a plate and fork with them. And, if in your mind that breaks some Super Bowl Party etiquette, then opt for the Preserve plastic plates and utensils.
What else would you recommend for a green Super Bowl party?
