Sometimes the best planters don't start their life as a 'plant container.' When there's enough empty coffee tins, refrigerator drawers, pasta strainers and the like, why bother going to a store to buy a new planter or why pay for that vintage look when you probably already have something useful in your house. If you're unsure about where to start, check out our roundup for tons of inspiration.

i love repurposing...:.. i used milk cans and yogurt containers
I've got three containers full of herbs and lettuces this summer. I'm absolutely loving being able to step out onto my back porch for a salad!

At our Good Earth Home, Garden & Living Show we have asked the local food bank for huge industrial sized tomato sauce cans for table arrangements. They give us cases of these red beautys to use in the cafe. We save all packing peanuts for filler (perfect for event lightweight plantings) and pull hens & chicks out of our office garden for zero waste arrangements! We always return the styro peanuts back into our garden shed for the next show too!
The black olive cans can look stylish too!
We also used a mint green 60's toilet, which was replaced with a water saving one, for a Rose Bowl Go Ducks floral arrangement. After the show we asked BRING Recycling to pack the toilet back to their reuse center with their display!
