What is the difference between a planter and a flower pot?
I have found that at stores selling both indoor and outdoor pots, the indoor ones are usually the highly priced ones - especially when you start getting up into the larger sizes. I've always had luck finding beautiful, large pots in the outdoor section for far less money, and I use them indoors.
I have had the hardest time finding a medium-large (at least 12" tall) planter pot for an indoor plant. What I want is something like this ( http://www.dwr.com/product/new-pot-50.do?sortby=ourPicks ) but preferably 1/3 of that price...
Any ideas??
@zuke if you can live with ceramic, and are able to get to a Lowe's this is a pretty close approximation...there are quite a few variants of this matte finish tapered cachepot style out and about in home and garden centers. And this one is actually under $20.

I've found some fabulous and funky pots and planters at TJ Maxx for cheap (between $5-7 for medium sized pots). Surprising, I know. Since Homegoods is owned by the same parent company I've tried there, but they tend to be much more expensive for the same pots. Not sure why that is, but I've had great luck at TJ Maxx!
@USBEK DE PERSE great question. it comes down to difference in drainage. I don't know about exact terminology but usually two types of pots: #1) that has drainage (hole + saucer, for example) #2) one without holes. #1 means you can put soil and plant directly in the pot. #2 means you must have a second layer in order to properly drain water. This usually means you leave the plant in the plastic container you bought it in.
The Crate & Barrel Lilla Planters is an example of #1. The Ikea Kardumumma series is an example of #2.
hope that's clear.
Craigslist people.
I just had to add these awesome planters from Chiasso here and here and here.
The smaller ones are $18 and the larger are $28. I have one of each and they are very well made and sturdy at a phenominal price.
