Here is a bit of bright color to start off your weekend, courtesy of The River Garden Flower Farm, Catskill, NY. According to the workers at the stand they may have another three weeks of putting on a show at the Greenmarket, so now is definitely the time to appreciate their harvest.
Check out more colors after the jump...

Many of these turn into excellent dried flowers, so you could even hold onto them far longer than a week. And if I didn't know cosmos before, I certainly do now. The River Garden has massive bunches of fresh-cut cosmos to bring home:

Does anyone know what the fuzzy-looking maroon and gold flowers in the second picture are called?
Celosia cristata, commonly cockscomb.
I brought home a few bouquets from my local farmers' market this summer, and I kept finding tiny black seeds EVERYWHERE. It took my a while to figure it out, but they were coming from the cockscomb in the bouquets. There were literally THOUSANDS of them. I am still finding seeds weeks later! I will never ever buy cockscomb again :(
I had the exact same problem with cockscomb. It looked like some sort of poppyseed explosion or something. Little black seeds everywhere. The flowers are gorgeous with a rich velvety color, but the seeds were a mess.
