These flowers are gone - but every week brings a fresh choice

With Saturday approaching, maybe you are thinking of getting together with friends or family. If you are planning on a weekend party or a small wedding (congratulations Jill!) and are flexible, you can show up and get fantastic local flowers in huge amounts from this vendor at Union Square...

Waiting in line to pay.

Recently mentioned in New York Magazine, Jame Durr Flower Wholesaler has the Greenmarket cornered - literally. On Saturdays they have the Southeast corner of the market, where the line to buy their goods eventually winds from south to north up the block. Getting there early is the best option, otherwise you will feel like you are in line for concert tickets. But while you are waiting you undoubtedly will add more onto your bag as you slowly wind past the tables and buckets of goods - kind of like the impulse buys at the grocery checkout, but more wholesome.

But they have buckets and buckets of their flower varieties of the week, and they are all fresh and grown locally on the Durr farm. In addition, they also have select berries, fruits and vegetables that are sold. They have had the most delicious strawberries these past weeks.

Because of the general mayhem at the market, they are not able to do preorders; you have to just show up and pick from what they have. But getting there in the morning, and being flexible and a bit adventurous, will ensure you have a great time and first pick from the fantastic ocean of flowers they bring every week.
