monstrous bearded irises from DUVA Farm
With lilacs having reached their peak, and tulips making a curtain call (this is the last week), many other flowers are elbowing each other for the spotlight. Do not miss these bearded irises and grapefruit-sized alliums at DUVA Farm's Union Square stand. They may be sold out today, but they will be back on Wednesday. Take a quick look after the jump.

These irises were brimming with rusty purples and deep yellows and brown-tinged cornflower blue. They stood like wise, ancient creatures in stark contrast with their thick stems to the little bright annuals a few stands down.
LOVE their tall copper flower pots! The irises were $4 per stem, and the alliums were slightly more - at about $7. Either way you are getting maximum impact for your dollar with these two choices.

When I left my house this AM to go gallery sit, the house around the corner had 3 paper grocery bags at the end of their driveway marked "Free Iris"!!!
Already aclimated to our soil, nature and microclimate, this was perfect, and I had JUST said I want to plant iris in our yard. So, now we have 3 bags full!
Woo!
LOL, I thought the same thing about the bearded man selling bear irises :-) I bought the deep purple ones last Wed, a yellow and lilac color. They are still going. They are smashing.
