Horticultural Therapy Gardens: A lecture by Jack Carman

Tuesday, January 22, 2008, 6:00 – 7:30pm

Free for members, $10 for nonmembers

Jack Carman is a nationally-recognized Landscape Architect as well as owner, founder, and president of Design for Generations, LLC. He will speak about his experiences designing and developing horticultural therapy gardens, the philosophy behind them, and their significance in urban environments.

Lessons in Plant Maintenance: A lecture by Robert Monteleone

Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 6:00 – 7:30pm
Free for members, $10 for nonmembers

A graduate of NYBG's School of Professional Horticulture, Robert currently operates a rooftop design and maintenance business in New York City. Join him as he speaks about the importance of proper horticultural practices, plant maintenance, and species editing as it pertains to small-space urban gardening.

Movie Screening: The Healing Gardens of New York
Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 6:15 – 7:30pm
Free for members, $5 suggested donation for nonmembers

Join us for the viewing of a captivating and inspiring film and the opportunity to meet the filmmaker. The Healing Gardens of New York, an award-winning documentary by Alexandra Isles, illustrates the significance of gardens and green spaces in the face of ever growing urbanization and development here in our city.

Art Opening at HSNY: Children's Art Exhibition

Join us for the opening of a very special art exhibition featuring the work of children who take part in HSNY's unique AppleSeed education program along with other schoolchildren engaged in both horticulture and art. All are welcome, young and old alike, there will be snacks and live music!

Building Your Own NYC Garden Design Business: A lecture by David Kulick

Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 6:00 – 7:30pm
Free for members, $10 for nonmembers

David Kulick fell in love with gardens all over the world during his 15-year tenure as a member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Following expert horticultural training, David transitioned from dancer to designer by forming his own NYC based design studio, Zone 6 Inc. He will speak about his influences, the challenges of career transition and business ownership, and will include overviews of past, present and future projects.

The HSNY Gallery is currently featuring the brilliant exhibition SARAH HIRZEL, GARDENS, on view through February 8th. Please visit our website, www.hsny.org, for more information regarding this emerging artist's first solo show in New York City. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 11am - 6pm.
