I wanted to show a book that I saw recently at the New York Botanical Garden, Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration from Africa by Hans Silvester
. This book documents through photography how the Surma and Mursi tribes of the Omo Valley have decorated the one canvas they have available to them - their bodies.
Take a look at a few more pictures after the jump...
Although these are scenes I cannot immediately relate to, they made my pulse quicken and I was drawn into every picture. It gave me a fresh perspective on color - and flowers - and the power and need people have to creatively express themselves.
The book is available at a discount on Amazon, and I have also seen it at many of the local bookstores here in NYC.
If you cannot find a copy, then Mail Online has many photos from the book for you to enjoy.
