Sprout Home (from Chicago) has opened up shop in New York. It is almost impossible for a flower shop to have a large space in Manhattan, but over in Brooklyn they have found a beautiful and spacious location on Grand Street in Williamsburg, with dizzying high ceilings, a spacious back garden space, and the most refreshing cross breeze that travels right through the entire shop - no AC needed.
Sprout has a bit of everything, just as described on their website, with more to discover as one circles around. They had a large potted Passiflora which I only wish could survive in my dark apartment, as well as an entire wall of air plants that are easy enough to care for with a little misting. The garden area had quite a bit packed in - large pots of ornamental grasses, coneflowers, rudbeckia, hostas, and even enormous butterfly bushes for a backyard or balcony planter. And interesting choices of cut flowers (you know I loved the Nigella). With such a big space they also do a good job of keeping the plants watered and happy from front to back.
Sprout home was great fun to discover, and the staff, Doan (cut flowers) and Cynthia (garden), were very friendly and helpful. Sprout is at 44 Grand, next door to Moon River Chattel (which also made for fun window shopping), and well worth the walk over from Bedford Ave. on a sunny day.
