A fun paper craft, a painless lesson in symmetry and mathematics, an easy way to introduce a pop of color, and an excuse to say the word dodecahedron. What's not to love about this DIY garland comprised of Platonic solids.

Named after the ancient Greek philosopher Plato, Platonic solids are regular 3-D figures, in which all the edges are of equal length, all the angles of equal measure, and all faces are congruent shapes.
Inspired by the noticeable polyhedral trend taking place in the design world, the ever-talented Kate from Mini Eco fashioned this straightforward and fetching paper craft employing this especially eye-pleasing form. Check out her original post here, complete with printable templates for making your own.

Is there any way to incorporate "dodecahedron" into a Valentine message? These are wonderful and I'll be making them for my mathematician husband to find on Valentines day!
Out of curiosity, where does one find the paper for this kind of project?
Very cool. And a good starting place for monster crafts.
sberman - any office supply store or craft store will have plenty of colored paper.
@sberman, looks like "Brights" standard printer paper to me.
Rainbow Platonic solids -- very wonderful!
@miche, make your garland only attach it to a heart-shaped chunk of wire (coathanger, perhaps?) -- voila, Valentine!
The top photo is photoshopped thought, no?
Thanks for posting my garland Ben. Just thought I would let people know that the paper is from Paperchase (the specific range is called Spectrascope).

oh, these are awesome.
Aha! I remember making these in elementary school. I loved decorating them with different patterns.
Wow - you also must have a good camera and lighting!
