This is one of those childhood activities I had forgotten about until seeing it over at The Artful Parent the other day. We have several bags of marshmallows left over from the holidays and with this great idea, I've got a great afternoon activity!
It's simple - you just need a bag or two of marshmallows and a package of toothpicks. Then let your kids give it a try. Depending on their ages, you may need to show them how this works. It's instant tinkertoys. For more great photos, check out Jean's post on The Artful Parent where she is "trying to parent in a way that encourages creative expression, imagination, joyfulness, and a love of learning." Mission accomplished.

White Enamel Flatwa...
you can use uncooked spaghetti, too. actually, my husband is an engineering phd student and at the christmas party this year, they had a spaghetti/mini-marshmallow tower building contest. it was AWESOME and hilarious. they took it so seriously.
Be warned...kids absolutely cannot resist eating the marshmallows, which makes their fingers wet, which makes the remaining "building brick" marshmallows sticky, which makes everything the creations touch sticky. I idiotically let a bunch of fourth grade boys do this on my living room floor and learned the hard way. Duh.
all i can think about is the time i stepped on a toothpick and had to have an ER doctor remove it because it snapped off inside. sorry, debbie downer. ha!!
V cute. I think we will do this craft on next no school day
We are sooooo doing this on our next snow day. :)
Well, I was planning to do this until debbie downer mentioned the toothpick in the foot. :) I'm glad you mentioned it though... I have two CRAZY little boys, so we would definitely have toothpicks all over. Maybe I'll try the uncooked spaghetti.
Thank you for sharing posts that we can really relate to! We love doing this as boredom busters, too, but also also as party crafts. I originally saw a beautiful construction at an architectural museum with gum drops and it's our go to party craft. I always enjoy your posts
