PogoPlug Pulls the Plug, Offers Free Software Version

As eye-catching as the original PogoPlug was (a "provide-your-own-hard drive" cloud solution), the pink really just clashed with everything around it, never really fitting into the decor our pads. Even with the Pro version, you're still forced to sync an external hard drive onto the plug, building up unnecessary clutter. It seems PogoPlug have heard our cries, so today they're releasing a software package that gets rid of the "plug" altogether.

The PogoPlug software will be available in two flavors: free and premium (Mac and PC). For $29, you get the additional support for streaming music and video over the cloud while the free version is a simple piece of magical software that turns your computer into a cloud.

We tested the PogoPlug Pro a while back, but the software needed lots of improvement and streaming wasn't all that great either. However, now that it's practically free to try, it's hard to complain (though Dropbox users are likely not all too impressed).

Grab the free version or sign up for the pro version to start turning your computer into a crazy media distribution server.
