Some people love purple, but others recoil in horror. Here are seven rooms that take it on, by way of accent pillows, furniture, or full-on painted walls. Could you take the plunge?

Purple and brown: yes. Purple and gray: no. Too stark and 1980s.
The second photo conveys how purple can be used effectively on a large scale, and the fifth shows how it can be used subtly.
reminds me of Marie from Breaking Bad. no thanks
My daughters fav colour is purple so we let her have one wall in her room as an accent wall in the colour. It's enough to last me a lifetime.
The horror.
Not my style-
But, I MUST know the grey color used in the 5th shot!
Doesn't help that the site it's on is in French.
My office has a few plum/eggplant accessories, but that's it. My favorite color, but I've come a long way since my lavender bedroom (walls, ceilings, and trim) of my childhood. A little goes a long way.
OMG that sofa in the first photo is divine. I love it!
I used to have a bit of deep dark almost black- plum in my great room, in the window treatments and accents only. The predominant color was a mocha on the walls, the floors are hardwood, chocolate brown leather and a few green accents. The purple (being so dark) grounded the space the way black would.
My daughter also loves softer shade of purple - so I had to paint her bedroom and bathroom to get rid of it the minute after she moved to college.
I think that ALL of these are beautiful in their own way. I don't see Grey and Purple as being 1980's and I was in my early twenties. I remember everything being so brown..
I plan on painting my 2nd bedroom blue and lavender when my current tenant moves out.
When I think of purple walls I always think of Monica's apartment in "Friends", an apartment I LOVED.
(Really don't like purple and brown, way too similar)
Yes to purple. I forget how much I like it until I see other rooms decorated with it. Maybe I'll use purple in my next place. Current place I'm renting has brightly colored walls and purple wouldn't work.
i like the grey and purple bedroom a lot.
i am not usually a purple fan. i definitely wouldn't want purple walls. but i would LOVE this purple couch. http://eclecticrevisited.com/2010/12/24/lavender-purple-decorating-ideas/sofa-purple-velvet-chesterfield-tufted-back-home-decor-ideas/
lovely! I love purple and gray but my favorite is lavender and black. I really like d #4 & #5 but #6 is just a little bit to frosty
Yes, I have taken the plunge! We love our purple couch and think it's very rock n' roll. But I prefer to stick to dark purples and eggplant tones, not lavender.
All of these rooms are beautiful. I might be a bit biased, though--purple is one of my two favorite colors.
anyone know where you could find the mounted lamps (or something similar) in photo number 5? those are awesome.
I love purple, but not the hue in the first photo. The others are lovely, though!
Reminds me of bishops and royalty. Off with their heads!
I detest purple. I don't know why, but no other color inspires such revulsion in me.
In my first house, I painted my bedroom a pale grape color like the room in #4. I'm surprised that none of the examples pairs lavender with green -- it's very fresh and natural and it helps calm down the "lurid" vibe that people seem to fear.
Pic #4 looks a lot like my guest bedroom's color. I like it even though I'm not into purple. It's a good choice for a small bedroom.
@umi. Google Jielde and that should get you started.
For loving purple, I have surprisingly little of it in my home. I think it's generally been harder to find cool pieces in shades of purple over the years, so I've ended up acquiring more blue, which is always abundantly available. Subtle purple pastels are cool and calming (my old bedrooom was a slightly purple shade of white, and it just glowed), and deeper jewel tones are so rich and relaxing. I just love it.
The color that I can't stand is red, so I've never understood its popularity. Where purple can be vibrant yet calming, I always see red as loud and garish. Without that punch of blue in the hue, it's just so overpowering.
Where can I find that gray and white rug in #4? It's so lovely!
I don't understand the revulsion to a colour. All colours are beautiful, aren't they? It's the combination of colours and their context that matter, I thought.
I wouldn't normally think of decorating with purple, but I love love love the colors and textures in the first picture.
Only thing good is the amethyst color geod in the last pic. Otherwise, purple is one choice where it'd be easy to say "Y'know, there are/were some better choices than the purple you chose.". Course, that wouldn't work with a 9 year old girl.
Half of my living room walls are deep purple. The paint was a custom mix but it is very close to Farrow & Ball's 'Pelt'.
Whenever I see purple in a home I can't help but think of Marie from 'Breaking Bad'.
I'll admit to being a purple lover. But I can't see the color without giggling now... Years and years ago when I was living in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NYC my roommate and I decided to paint some purple accents in the kitchen. He left a can of paint open, with the lid next to it, and the cat walked across the lid and then across the counter and the kitchen floor... We howled, and both learned to put the lid back on the paint when you leave the room. (He did make perfect little purple paw prints. Such an artist...)
Never done purple. Never will. Same goes for pink, mauve, magenta, yellow, chartreuse, and the list goes on.
Purple is incredible! My bedroom is black, white and green. I got bored with it and added a splash of purple. It's brilliant. I am loving the Elle Decor room. I would def. use that as inspiration for a future room. Maybe a chick cave instead of a living room though.
It's easy for purple to look cheap and unsophisticated but in the right quantities and shades, I think it looks great. I painted on living room wall lime and have a lot of purple/violet accents that make the lime pop.
I like 1, 5, and 6. But especially 1. The others are too wimpy and uncommitted.
I still have granny's handmade purple and white afghan on my bed.....love it.
