Popcows Rug

Digital cowhide. These cowhide rugs made by Popcows are produced using time-honored techniques but are pieced together randomly. They end up looking a bit pixelated, which is pleasantly unexpected in a rug made with such a traditional material.

We tend to favor pieces like this that combine traditional materials or techniques with modern twists. Check out the white one, which is equally striking:

I can see this in the lobby of some kind of Texas-based corporation.

Does anybody know anything about what is involved in the making of cowhide rugs? I am drawn to them but wonder what the process is of obtaining the hides. Is it similar to leather?
