I'm not really a "modern safari" person, but this new mobile camp by Singita is pretty interesting from a design perspective. Crafted from canvas tents and old-school furnishings that seem like they came straight from the set of "Out of Africa," this is a totally collapsible, portable luxury camp.
Just opened this month, the year-round mobile camp is owned and operated by Singita, a company that leads modern safaris through the Serengeti in Tanzania. The roving itinerary includes nights under the stars in the luxury tents as well as "stays at Sasakwa, Faru Faru and Sabora Tented Camp."
This kind of camping doesn't come cheap — a three-night trip goes for a whopping $2,600 per person. While it might not be the most practical vacation plan, the interiors are totally worth checking out online for their rugged but refined style — couldn't you just see Ernest Hemingway setting up his typewriter in front of one of those folding director's chairs?

Hmmm...the first thing that popped into my head was M.A.S.H (4077). Where the still? I thought this was supposed to be a "luxury" camp?
Mr. Modtomic
I get it. And I like it!
I suspect you mean Singita, not Singata. Just sayin'.
@MrModtomic-
To a person who actually camps, this IS luxury. To get any more luxurious, it would have to come with a hotel wrapped around it.
I stayed here once with my wife. The owner imported her tent form Africa. Pretty cool, if pricey place to stay in the Texas Hill Country.

@Zoolander, yes. Thanks for the correction.
I want one of those beds!! love them.
I had a farm in Africa.
Reminds me of Hatari - the John Wayne movie, which has always been one of my favorites. I believe I could be convinced to camp in that!
@ potpie - Don't make me cry.
I. Love. This.
I'm with Mr. Modtomic - I half-expected to see a sign over the door that read "SWAMP." It's very 4077th.
Though I'm also with mjs7640 - I camp, and yeah. This is luxury. Timber framing and canvas is a definite change (and upgrade!) from fiberglass and nylon.
"I thought this was supposed to be a "luxury" camp?" For a mobile tent yes this would be luxury. You want running water, an aircon , and an in ground pool well it is now a lodge that happens to use tents. Further the price quoted is actually fairly average ie 8k for 9 days. Now if by luxury you mean excess yes there are outfits who will explain the sheets have x amount of thread count, how the bottled water is from the Alps and they only serve Ethiopian coffee, blah, blah,blah. They start at twice this price and the interiors run to the fantastical. You still don't get aircon or running water though. The general thought I have is that if you expect to live like your at the Hotel Suisse in the bush you should probably not be in the bush. There are lodges for the sort of people who go to Africa and tell their friends about their roughing it, ie essentially sitting by the pool and eating club sandwiches with one bumpy Land Rover ride through the bush to make it legit.
