Although the name "lingerie chest" sounds a little cheesy, this piece of furniture can provide a great storage solution for small spaces. If you have an awkward corner or a tiny stretch of wall you want to maximize, a lingerie chest's tall, skinny dimensions might be just what you need.
We think they're great for the nursery, provided you securely strap them to the wall, because they take up so little room and give you lots of small drawers for all those strange categories of baby clothing (onesies, short-sleeved onesies, long-sleeved onesies, long-sleeved onesies with feet, sleepers, sleep sacks, etc.) They also provide a bit of visual height to a room, and you can display fragile accessories or a lamp on top out of reach of little hands.
And don't worry. They aren't all shabby cottage French provincial. The Ikea Malm 6-drawer chest ($149) shown above has clean, modern lines and comes in several colors. Craigslist is also a great source. The one in the top picture was a $20 Craigslist find!

Howard Butcher Bloc...
We bought one at an unfinished furniture store when I was pregnant with my son (who is now 8!) and painted it bright red with alphabet blocks for handles. Since then it has been deep blue, bright green and a more mellow sage green depending on what his, or his sister room decor is. The handles have been changed out and back several times as well. It's always been the best kids chest of drawers, as you say, lots of little drawers for lots of small items. One of our best furniture investments!
Ah! How crazy! This looks like a picture of my son's room! Except that corner is lacking something as wonderful as a lingerie chest! But the crib, the window - it's the same. What a perfect solution...now to just find one that's not super expensive! I am on the hunt!
I love the room and LOVE the mobile! Is that an Irmi mobile? Where is it from? Such a charming room!
