Last week Apartment Therapy DC readers were excited to spend time at home during the snow storm. With the schools and government offices closed again tomorrow, we're wondering if you're still enjoying the snow. Are you loving an extended home stay or feeling stuck at home?

That photo reminds me of growing up in Upstate Michigan...
...walking to school on the tops of snowdrifts looking into the neighbors 2nd story windows.
They only closed the schools when there was a blizzard - 10 feet of snow on the ground was just your typical winter.
Wisconsin.
Enough said.
@bepsf...i grew up in michigan too and i remember it being so much nicer and prettier there then here in baltimore. plus, people in the city r wimps. michiganders live and breath this stuff in winter.
i actually went to work today and am staying as long as possible cuz cabin fever almost made me make my poor cat into a pair of mittens....
We were snowed in a few weeks ago in London. We are a bunch of whimps when it comes to snow in UK.
We spent this Christmas in Chicago and were amazed how everything ran and carried on. The pavements were so clear you wouldn't have even thought it snowed.
Another former Michigander here, stuck inside in DC - not enjoying enforced staying at home. If I had a car, I would have driven to work today, but relying on the Metro just isn't cutting it.
Hmmm tried to submit a comment, but it appears to have disappeared. Anyway, I also grew up in Michigan, but moved northeast of Baltimore 4 years ago. I had been missing the snow until this year! I love it right now! :) I was fine with being stuck inside all weekend, I had stuff do do around the house anyway. I still made it out into the snow Sunday night to go sledding. The roads were clear where I am at, so I went to work yesterday and today. Tomorrow I will probably be working from home though with all of the additional snow that we are supposed to get...
Yeah, it was definitely 70 degrees here yesterday. But a cold front came through last night, so it's in the 40s I think. Still, no snow keepin' me home unfortunately. Do people get paid for these snow days? Is no one plowing the snow?
@heynowtex...they plow it but its hard to keep it clear/slick-free and figure out the best time to do so. when i lived on an alley street it was virtually impossible to go anywhere when cars are parked on either side and it cant b plowed properly.
I feel ambivalent--my kids are small, and one of them is too young to go out for more than 15 minutes (6mo), which is drag for me and the older kid (who is three). I'll have to take a sick day because their daycare will be closed and my office will be open. On the other hand, we have all the ingredients for homemade marshmallows and hot cocoa in the pantry, and the 3yo has great snowpants, so I may get to play!
I would like snow a lot more if I didn't have to constantly clean my car etc. and worry about having to drive to crummy work!
I miss sledding and playing in the snow..
Being a grown up sucks.
Yeah the drive to work worries me after it snows...I drive 40-45 minutes each way! Plus I'm out in the country, so it's 2 lane roads most of the way there...
You can still go sledding and play in the snow! Just not during the day :) We have a hill in our backyard that is a decent size so we go sledding there. I do wish that we had snow days from work though!
I'm supposed to be on a flight Thursday morning out of DC! Even if the airport's open it will be incredibly difficult to get to, so I'm very over it.
No snow here in east Texas :P
When it gets this cold, I do have to bring my plants in at night and do my makeup in the car while it warms up in the morning (c: I will admit to being a wimp, I can't stand for it to be this cold unless its the weekend and I can stay inside with hubbs, hot chocolate, and Desperate Housewives!
I am LOVING it! Of course, as I own no car and live in a highrise where I have no shoveling to do, that might be easy for me to say. I just got back from a mile walk in the 2' snow, including climbing over 3-5' piles, and then a trip to the gym before the next snow starts. And I love having the extra time at home.
I'm out in Arlington and it really is not going so well. Our road is now closed because it is a steep hill of ice. We only have Safeway within walking distance and they have now been sold out of poultry, milk and most dairy products, and most produce for a week. It's a shame they can't catch up on plowing before the storm! I do love the snow days though! It feels like I'm back in high school! Is the gvernment really closed again tomorrow?
What day is it?
I live in the DC area, and just returned from a trip to Minnesota. I love the snow, I love the ice, I love the cold, I really do. The problem with being snowed in here in DC, though, is that the folks around here who are smart stay off the roads (me) because the people on the roads are, for the most part, inexperienced with winter weather driving and they take entirely too many risks and put everyone else on the road in danger. And since our area is not prepared to deal with the amount of snow we have, half the area is plowed out, the other half is clear (though clear is relative...the plows seem to be plowing pretty unevenly, which really is worse than not plowing at all, in my opinion--makes people think they can drive without an issue--until they hit an enormous chunk of ice and snow they weren't expecting!) I like being snowed upon in the northern states because they have the faculties to handle the problem. Everyone has a snowblower, the plows know how to handle the snowfall build up, and people don't raid grocery stores as though the end of the world is nigh. I'm all out of muenster cheese for the grilled cheeses my husband keeps requesting when he comes in from a walk in the snow with our dogs, but I don't dare venture to Wegman's for fear of my own survival. I love grilled cheese as much as the next guy, but I can wait three days until it is safe to go to the store and get more supplies.
I still have to shovel it, why? To get to work of course. Time at home? What's that?
I love driving on the partially plowed road with my FWD car. it gives a little more excitement to my driving experience and also reminds me of my college days in cleveland where we got this much snow on a weekly basis. gotta love the lake effect.!
I am from Buffalo and I had a business meeting in Virginia.
Facing a day of nothing to do I went out around my hotel. The roads were terrible! if our roads at home looked like that we wouldn't like to go out either.
I did end up renting a car and going out though, only so much cocoa and togetherness with stranded strangers in the Hampton Inn lobby.
I'm almost disappointed that no company I've ever worked for here in Chicago has closed due to snow or inclement weather. It just doesn't happen. It may look like the end of world outside, but you're expected to get to work somehow.
This morning I walked the mile to the train station in blowing snow. The platform was full of people, and train arrived and departed on time. It's just another day in Chicago.
I, too, was out in the blowing snow this morning in Chi town and I have to say it is good to be wintering in a city that knows how to deal with snow.
I have been in Maryland for quite a few years, a beautiful state that has many excellent qualities, but cleaning the roads after a snow storm was not one of them. I hope you get a few sunny days for a good meltdown.
I'm happy at home because I'm able to work here. I don't feel any more stuck than if I were in the office. Also helps that I'm able to drive out of my street (though the major roads around me are downright scary, hence the staying at home)
Another storm is expected starting tonight through tomorrow...bring it!
I live in a DC neighborhood with everything I need close by - plus I tend to keep the foods we need stocked, so we've been fine on supplies. We've slogged through the snow to get to the gym almost every day. I enjoyed the weekend days to clean house and help my husband cook Cajun food for our Superbowl Party (Geaux Saints!), and now, after two days without work (I work for a school) my house is clean, I've made one of those soups that take all day to make, AND I got to watch several episodes of HouseHunters (my guilty pleasure) on Hulu today. Tomorrow? Sleep late again, another trip to the gym, maybe some laundry and curling up with hubby for movies. I'm in the mood for The Godfather.
So over this snow in the midwest. I can't imagine living in DC. Hurry up summer!!
Although I already work at home, I am loving this snow because when the office is closed, I don't have to work either! Now, I do deliver newspapers, too. I ended up doing Saturday's, Sunday's and Monday's all on Monday. Now I may end up doing Wednesday's with Thursday's. Ugh. But I am enjoying the kids being off from school because they are cheap labor. ;)
Even with the papers, I am enjoying the snow. I went sledding for the first time in 20 years last Saturday night. Who knew that the road right in front of my house was perfect for sledding? I have never seen anyone else sled it but at midnight it is deserted so we took advantage of it. What a thrill!!
I am loving seeing everyone's pictures of the Annapolis area covered in snow, too. Gotta love the web!! No cabin fever here!! :)
This is hysterically funny! I lived in Chicago for 10 years and know very well how it goes... the city keeps functioning and you just get on with it. Now, I'm in Belgium... this morning it was snowing ever so slightly. Really, ever so slightly... there was about 1 inch of snow covering everything and that is probably even an exaggeration. It was mayhem! One of the peopel at work took three hours to get here! Usually it takes him about 45 minutes. I just don't understand... And then there's the complaining about the weather. I say, bring on the snow!!
I have NEVER seen this much snow in Virginia in my lifetime. I'm in Richmond, and we usually don't encounter snow every year. And when it does snow, it's generally not much and only falls over a day or so. My area just doesn't have the equipment to clear roads adequately. I don't know anyone with a snow blower, and it seems like half the folks around here had to go out to buy snow shovels when the first round of snow came through. We've had periods of rain in between the snowstorms, so now there are layers of ice under the snow, making it pretty darn treacherous.
I want some snow! It's the hottest summer since ever here in Brazil. Send us -15ºC, please. We're melting here!
Finally snowing a bit in east Texas. Who woulda thunk? I wasn't sure whether to scrape the snow off my windshield this morning or let it fall off as I drive... yes I am one of those inexperienced winter drivers!
Supposed to snow all day and be about 1 inch tonight. This will be the most snow I have experienced in my lifetime in Texas, hah!
