We admit it, we're Ferry Building addicts. This past Saturday we spotted this wonderful collection of succulent plants on display at The Gardener.
It carries a hefty price tag of somewhere around $350, so we obviously won't be picking this particular one up. However, with the feeling of Spring and Summer seasons right around the corner we're going to be doing quite a bit of gardening this year. This photo inspired us to make sure we incorporate more succulents into our lives, and we encourage you to do the same!

and the above is a flat of mixed succulents for $85 you could plant your own for less than a third of the price of the one you saw.
I've been coveting those planters since seeing them in Berkeley this past January. However, any living thing I buy for that price better have fur and an impressive pedigree. I plan on modifying these directions from Martha to make my own succulent planter on the cheap:

I have managed to kill succulents. I don't know how I did it, but I did. How often should you water these suckers? Maybe mine weren't getting enough sun and I should open up my semi-sheer curtains? I just live on the first floor and like my privacy ha, and they let in enough light that it seems bright to me. Maybe my plants are a lil more picky?
garrett - i kill all plants, but i won a cool pot of succulents and ignored them outside for the last 2 years and they're doing great. so great in fact that i spent the afternoon pulling off the leaves and planting them in special organic dirt for succulents and cactus. so i think the trick is to ignore them outdoors and use the cactus dirt. don't use rich compost-y dirt. they don't like it apparently.

Hmm, must not be enough direct sun for mine then. They're like 9 feet from the window and I just let light in through the curtains. Time to start again and remember to open the windows.
