There is something to be said for a playroom dedicated entirely to the children. It contains all the toys and you can just shut the door when not in use. On the other hand, it's also nice to have a shared playroom/living room in the house where the entire clan can congregate.
This room we spotted at Light Locations has it all. There is comfortable seating for adults to curl up with a good magazine or book. Meanwhile, the kids can break out the toys in the same light-filled room. Keep toys limited to the space that you have and you can easily create a playroom for the entire family. If this photo has made you want to see the rest of this gorgeous home, run over to Light Locations.

WOW! LOVE IT!!!!
i've always thought it was sad when a playroom was obviously meant as a place for kids to go so that the adults in their lives didn't have to be with them. just about every room ought to have space for every member of the family, i think.
and i adore that yellow sofa!
I love the toy chest too -- perfectly fine for adult spaces. Anyone have any ideas for something similar, since the website doesn't provide details?
Our "formal" living room is our playroom (of course we still have toys in every other room of the house). It is nice because the room actually gets used on a daily basis. I have an old hope chest I put on casters for storage and I'm gearing up to do a wall of Expedit or Billy to get everything else off the floor.
Love this thought and trying to do something similar, so it's a fun place for anyone to hang out for games, crafts, puzzles, whatever.
Our living room is pretty mixed-use too, but the benefit with the "playroom" will be wilder decor and not having to ever clean up mid-activity. I love leaving projects out for easy start and stop.
Love the sofa too! Where is it from?
our formal living room is our playroom too :) we have a couch and a papasan for seating and the rest is toys, bookshelves, and play space. I love that it opens into our backyard and kitchen so we're definitely in there a lot.
I really love the simplicity (and kid-friendly corners) of that coffee table. Anyone seen anything like it?
We recently moved an unused couch into our playroom and my husband and I now spend a lot more time in there while our sons play.
We have a playroom/tv room and we love it! The toys are all to one side (we knocked down a wall to a neighboring tiny office/large closet room that had no purpose), and we don't watch too much tv during the day, but we still hang out in there while our son plays. At night the toys get put away and we can have our tv time.
another vote for awesome sofa!!!
Oh, that's MY house!! :)
The toy chest is from Ikea (I think it's not really a toy chest but more of a storage drawer that slides out. We've had it forever!)
The coffee table is by Ercol (rounded edges are great for little kids- I think every one of my kids learned how to walk by pulling themselves up to this table!). And the yellow velvet sofa is a hand-me-down from a friend who didn't want it anymore. Lucky us!

is the floor ikea too?
