Good Questions: Breakfast Nook Furniture with Storage?

Gloria sent in a question for the crowd. She writes: We are in the midst of a kitchen remodel (gut and redo everything kind) of our 1950's somewhat bastardized midcentury home. I'd like to put in a breakfast nook (benches, small table, a couple of chairs). I already have a couple of Thonet chairs that I intend to use as the side chairs, but I'm at a loss for the benches (which ideally would have some storage) and a table that don't look arts and crafts or French country. Any advice?

Get some 24" deep /15" high cabinets from wherever you're purchasing your kitchen cabinets and use them for seats - have them installed on shallow toe kicks on the floor - then have some wood or laminate counters cut for the top and load up with pillows and you're good to go.

along the lines of bepsf's idea- ikeahacker.com has some similar hacks recently using kitchen cabinets.

I like besf's idea--but is there space to open the doors without hitting the table support? What about a windowseat bench with either open shelving underneath or a hinged lid?
