Shallow Hide-away. For those that want a relatively inexpensive way to both mount and hide a flatscreen TV, the BJORNHOLMEN cabinet from IKEA does both while measuring just under 16" in depth and maintaining a low price...
The BJORNHOLMEN has a reinforced back panel for mounting a flat screen TV, so there is no need to drill holes in the wall and cords can be hidden at the back. In addition to drawers with room for storage, the doors on top fold to save space when they're not hiding your TV.
While IKEA has many products to mount a flatscreen TV, this is one of the few that does not require the furniture to be attached to the wall (Expedit) or braced between the floor and ceiling (STOLMEN). This is a true, free-standing unit.
Available in white foiled fiberboard with a solid birch base for $499 from IKEA.
Width: 51 1/8 "
Depth: 15 3/4 "
Height: 61 "

Ok, that's great... and I imagine you can paint it or finish it to match just about any decor.
Very, very nice cabinet...and if you're wondering about the name, it's a small island in Denmark (where my grandmother was born!) A fantastic place for a vacation.

I'm imagining the whole thing wallpapered...
That would be nice for a kitchen
What does "foiled" fiberboard mean?
I'm glad Ikea is finally starting to pay attention to the design of the feet on their furniture! The base of this thing makes it look like it's from someplace beyond Ikea.
too bad it's so wide...
too bad it's so white...
I like the idea of wallpapering it... but how? Sorry, I've never wallpapered.
It kind of needs to be wide if you want to fit a flatscreen TV inside...right?
Julia, you wouldn't be able to use wallpaper paste, but spray adhesive would probably work quite nicely. Being handy with an Xacto knife is a must, though, due to the curves of the inset handles.
I love the design of this and was looking at in in-store, but it seems very cheaply made, even given that it's IKEA and at this price point, it seemed flimsy compared to even the units surrounding it. The floor model was in a sorry state and it was labeled a new item, so it probably wasn't out on the floor for that long. I wonder how long it would stand up to regular use....
I wonder if that sell that in the Ikeas here in Italy...
I'm also curious why they felt the need to put the hinges on the outside.
The hinges are on the outside because I believe the doors fold out and against the outside of the cabinet so the TV is fully visible...but I am only guessing. Who has seen this in person? Is that how the doors work?
I like it, but wish it weren't so damn expensive!
I just googled this item and was so happy to see that apartment therapy was the first link to come up for it. I just bought it tonight at Ikea for $199!! (Brand New) Apparently, it has been discontinued and they are trying to sell them all off. I loved it at first sight, and the fact that it was more than 50% off, just sealed the deal. As I drove home, I hoped I hadn't made an impulse buy because of the price. I was worried, something might be wrong with it, to be discontinued. But, seeing these great reviews, I can't WAIT to put it together! Thanks!!
