hmmm what do the majority of these offices have in common? i think almost all of them have macs! macs rule! and mac owners have great style!

I don't see how a chair and a desk make a well designed home office.

An office is an actual room, not two pieces of furniture placed randomly in some nook or closet.

It would have been better to rename this piece: best places for your home computer.

guerilla, that's the silliest thing i've ever heard! an office is any space carved out for an office. if you live in an apartment, you likely do not have an extra, unused room for an office. so does that mean for one day a month your kitchen table isn't an "office" for the doing of official business?

my little carved out space in the living room is indeed an office - i work from home, i mentally shut the door when i come over here to work, and it's a fully functioning office space like anyone would have. i even have a copy machine!

Man am I below par: I have the Mac (beloved MacBook in white) but somehow, my desk is a MESS! Not sure I'm fit to even peruse these gorgeous (if on the minimal) office-nooks…

Dang, two of the items in these pictures were on my list - now they've been done I'm not sure any more that I want them! Just kidding. So how comfortable is the Panton chair for everyday, all-day use? I would love it in white for my gray desk. And the 'Keep Calm And Carry On' poster is gorgeous. I have it in red.

It's always refreshing to see some offices that don't look too office-y. I love what everyone has done with their desks and the great chair combos. I love the idea of chairs (or anything office for that matter) that don't look so office-y. However, these are ergonomic nightmares. I and many of my friends suffer from computer related strain injuries and can't go the no-adjustable keyboard tray, no office chair route. I settled on an Aeron chair because of the adjustable armrests (sideways and up and down) but I agree they are not the prettiest and they scream "office chair"!

Great home offices. I might be a little jaded, but I love how these are realistic and look well-used, unlike other home offices you might see in magazines or other photo shoots. Well done unplggd!

what do all these folks do at their desks? where are the files, printers, rerference books, docks for cameras, ipods, mail and all the other stuff that seems to drown my desk? Or is the difference between having a "home office" and actually working at home? I crave a serene work space but can't seem to make it happen.

Hm. I work from home and have a clean and tidy desk (and I have a mac hope that doesn't make me pretentious). My apartment is small so my 'office' takes up a corner of my living room. I've got the loop desk from crate and barrel (http://tinyurl.com/6dd7fg). The keyboard drawer goes all the way back so I've got my stack of printer paper in there, some folders and spiral notebooks for work notes, some sticky pads, my mouse and keyboard, my headphones, and still space for other things too, like my camera usb cord, some cd's pens. I keep my printer in the closet and pull it out a few times a year when I need it, and I keep the rest of my files in a near-by sideboard. At the end of the day I throw everything back into the keyboard drawer and I'm good to go.

The shots are too tight to tell if these are actually offices or just nooks where people keep their computers at home. I'm guessing there is a combination of both real offices and simply spaces to keep your computer in these pictures.

Part of the problem with stylish pictures that are framed for optimal aesthetic value is that there is so much you don't see. A little more editorial content would have helped a lot. The owners of these spaces could have said where they keep their files, printers, etc. or clarified if these were serious workhorse spaces or just places in their homes that augment their main office.

And I don't think only Mac users have style. I do think they value it more and are willing to make functional compromises for the sake of appearances and have more cash to invest in aesthetics.

(Disclosure: I use both a Mac and a PC with the Mac as my primary machine, but would never qualify for having a good-looking "home office" because I'm unwilling to sink money into prettying up my space - it's clean and very tidy, but not gorgeous.)

I love the pink keyboard cover. Must check it out. Thanks. Its a bit like the skin I have on my iPhone. Maybe from same company. I work from home as well. But my desk can't be seen because it is full of paperwork. Maybe we should all be brave enough to take pictures of the reality of our lives, rather than the fantasy. It would make a great conversational piece :-) One day I will have time to fix it up...I keep telling myself. I too love that yellow Poster, good in these current times. The V&A sells them in London, so I'm going there to get one. Nicely framed as well. Thanks for the inspiration
