The clever folks over at Creative Waste of California found this beat up old mailbox at the dump and decided to give it a new life as an umbrella holder. Check out the results of their DIY project after the jump...
The simple DIY only required a quick sanding of the rusty areas followed by a thorough coating inside and out with rust-proof spray paint. A few decorative touches in the form of little blue "droplets" hint at the mailbox's new purpose holding rainy day paraphernalia. Not bad for the cost of a can of paint and a little elbow grease!

That's cute. I think the blue droplets were a good idea.
Not enough of a transformation, in my opinion. It looks like a sideways mailbox.
A rusty old mailbox turned on its side with what seem like random blue paint spatters on it. Sorry, but it doesn't look so good to me.
What transformation?
So cute! I actually didn't get that the light blue were raindrops, but it made me like it even more once I knew.
I use this same solution in my home. A few years ago I found a vintage yellow mailbox at an antique store and had absolutely no idea what to do with it until my fav umbrella nearly got damaged from tumbling over so many times.
