Stunted? While it stood out in the crowd, we don't think we like CB2's new Indie Bed. While this reinterpretation of a 4-poster bed is definitely unique, the posts are at a bizarre height. While traditional four-poster beds might bring your eye upward or create a cozy retreat, these eye-level posts would seem to only trap your view and make the room seem smaller. Are we right? What do ATers think?..

Are we way-off base? Where would this look fabulous? The queen-sized Indie Bed sells for $499.

No good. Bad scale.
Blogged it...
My vague memory of when DungeonBeds sold through an otherwise conventional housewares boutique in the Castro (Barking Frog?) was that the posts were about this height, and that had a functional purpose related to the deployment of chains.
so fugly.
Not a fan of it either. Good idea, poor execution.
Not pretty but may be good for recreational activities.
Not a fan...but I really like those sconces (?) up above....
Looks unfinished.
ick
What's the point, exactly, of a "we hate this bed, don't you?" post?
Not enough negativity on the site for you already?
Jeez.
Agree that it looks unfinished. And while I don't like it in the context of that particular photo/environment, I don't think it would be bad in a more Zen-inspired, Asian bedroom, along with some fabric and high ceilings. Then again, that's not really my thing either. Not great, not terrible, just ... meh.
looks like a gigantic upside-down ikea lack table.
p(too) -- Perhaps we're supposed to bond against the common enemy of the imperfectly designed bed.
p too - agreed. What are we doing now, home fashion "don't's?" If it ain't good, don't post it.
Friendly criticism: The post has three consecutive sentences that start with "while."
Got copyeditors?
:-)
i wouldn't want it (no headboard) but i do see why some would appreciate it as a bold statement and relative simplicity of design.
agreed. shitay....
Bad. Those posts are the perfect height to hang stuff on, and I don't need more encouragement not to put my hoodies back in the closet.
The name makes me wince-- "Indie" bed? In my Gen. X adolescence, we'd have lampooned anyone who bought it as a "Poseur".
It would make a good contest to start with one of these and see how many different ways people would finish it.
I agree with robyn - I don't like it as is, but I can think of a bunch of interesting ways to modify it into something I would like...
Hideous
I dunno...I like the way it looks in the photo, anyway. I'd have to see it in person to decide if I thought the height of the posts seemed weird.
Someone said they like the wall sconces...those are from Crate & Barrel. I've been thinking about getting one for my living room.
*puke*
When I saw it - in the catalogue, I think - I just wondered why. It just looks like they forgot something.
I like it. You would need a larger bedroom than I have to make it work, but I like it.
Given my height, when I wear capris total strangers are practically tempted to say to me, "Where are the rest of your pants?" That's basically how this bed makes me feel. . .
Hmm. I must be getting senile. I would have thought P(2)'s post would have the obscene suggestion and Wende's would have the upbeat positivist one.
That said, I do like the concept. I think it would fly had the posts been tapered toward the top, or perhaps has some sort finial to finish them off. As the posts stand down they just stop at a weird height.
A friend of mine has a house with (I kid you not) 6-foot ceilings on the second floor. This bed would be perfect.
We all hate this. We all have great taste. They suck!
Maybe AT should focus less on spawning more and more new sites and focus on some quality content...
i like that there is no definate footboard/headboard, and while i dont like it as a "normal" north/south bed, i think it could work great as an east/west daybed.
and i agree that we dont really need to read posts about things that you dont like; and where do you stop, its GOOD design that is hard to find, that is what should be featured. it almost makes me think you posted something negative about cb2 as a way to balance all the other postitive things youve posted about them in the past, trying to make yourself feel less of a sell-out to the big boxes?
and the sconces are from cb2, crate sells a similar one, but its bigger and slightly different
You could put an eye out with that thing.
Hmm. I must be getting senile. I would have thought P(2)'s post would have the obscene suggestion and Wende's would have the upbeat positivist one.
As a summer break, we are trading personalities. Look for your normal posting stereotypes to return after Labor Day.
now you tell me....
I can not make it without double entendre until Labor Day.
Looks like all that is missing is a horse or two to tie up to the post.
surely a four-poster would require a bon huit
it reminds me of that mdf stuff on trading spaces. haha
I'd like a modified bed like this with more of a zen feel and shorter and maybe rougher posts. Maybe reclaimed wood or something. Anyone know of a bed similar to this with shorter posts? I like the square posts, but that height looks terrible.
