What do you have on your floors?

Does anyone know if Flor tiles leave a sticky residue when taken up or does all of the adhesive stay on the tile?

Michael, the adhesive sticks the tiles to each other, not the tiles to the floor.

I have had Flor for the past few years... Love it! No issues with stickiness. The only problem I have is my Aeron chair rolling back and forth across the floor will cause a few of them to shift occasionally, but thats easily fixed. I especially love that after a red wine incident, you can pull one up and clean just the one.

Devyn what kind of Flor tiles did you order and where did you use them? I am thinking about Flor for my living room but I am kind of leery given some of the posts on AT. So I'd be interested to hear your experiences ( as well as other Flor users). Of course commentary on the product is most useful if people give what styles they have used ie House Pet vs Wide Wale. Thanks

We used the Modern Mix tiles in Green in our playroom/dining room combo area in our last apartment. They were a great alternative to an area rug, and the subtle colors were very pretty. We are thinking of going bolder in our new apartment's playroom, and using the Classic Quilt in Mango --crazy, fun bold colors! I resisted having rugs at all for a long time, but then my first Flor catalog came and I was finally able to give them a go.

Has anyone used these under a dining table? I have a client who asked about using htme that way, but I was reluctant given the chairs getting pushed and pulled in and out at every meal... and Devyn's comment makes me suspect the concern is well-founded.

Oh, by the way, the Flor tiles we bought two years ago did stick to the floor (but were easy to un-stick when necessary). But shortly thereafter they changed the stickers so that they now stick to each other instead.

Seriously though, I'm not a frequent commenter, but I've read plenty of yours, MrGreen, and I'm wondering, would it kill you to integrate some positivity into your life?

saralily - aha! i was wondering what anne in chicago meant by her comment. i have old-school flor tiles -- back when the circular adhesive spots were meant to keep the tile stuck to the floor.

i think i might like the stick-'em-to-the-floor approach better, so the carpet doesn't shift (as devyn noted). and removing any sticky residue was easy enough with some goo gone.

So what prevents the tiles from sliding on the floor surface?

Michael - friction. The tiles have a rubber backing.

I have a Flor area rug in my living room--a bad place for it! It's really very commercial-feeling. I have the Zooty Tooth in grey and cream. Look for it on Chicago's craigslist in January.

Anne in Chicago, what do you think makes Flor not work as a living room area rug? Is is the texture you chose, the thickness etc?The whole reason I am attracted to Flor tiles is because everytime I move I can rarely use the old rug in the new place. I thought Flor would be perfect for this and future apartment situations. Should I forget Flor and just buy a rug and resell if I move?

The reason it doesn't work in my living room is that the texture and material is very commercial in feel. It probably works great in high-traffic homes and areas, but I have no kids or pets, and wish I'd gone with a more classic rug. Maybe some of the other tiles are better, though. I suggest ordering swatches before buying (they make great coasters).

I put Flor tiles in the lobby of my Co-op ("Home Movies" - popcorn) It looks great. I did not use the "dots" to stick the tiles together because it is easier to take up when people are moving in and out. The rubber backing keeps everything in place and it looks great. It was inexpensive and I didn't have to stick with typical rug sizes.

80% of the loft is in Flor. "Pet Hair' variety in black, with some color accent tiles. I find it phenomenal: almost nothing shows, and when the cats throw a hairball I wait till it dries and the vacuum cleans it all away. All of it. No residue sticks. No problems with shifting, even under my dinner table, but that may be because I went wall-to-wall.

After saying, "holy crap," when I got my $7500 linoleum estimate for my basement, I ordered FLOR. It should be here in a week or so. I'm pretty excited, mainly because I'm not sure I've fixed a basement leak issue; if these get wet, I can just remove a few and dry them out. That's the plan, anyway.

We have a toddler and a not 100% housetrained dog--FLOR has been great for our living room. Love it.

Some friends of mine have FLOR tiles, and they do look tacky. They're very industrial-looking, and also look rather cheap.

This is a product that would probably work best in a mud room/ basement/ garage situation.

And I actually think MrGreen is funny! "tapdancing on the parquet"....that made me lol.
